Why New Patio Doors Are a Smart Investment

Patio doors are more than just an entryway; they are a seamless transition between your indoor comfort and the beauty of your outdoor living space. Over time, however, even the most cherished patio doors can show their age, impacting everything from your energy bills to your home's aesthetic. Upgrading to new patio doors isn't just a home improvement project; it's an investment that offers a multitude of benefits, transforming your living environment and adding significant value to your property.

Enhanced Energy Efficiency

One of the most compelling reasons to consider new patio doors is enhanced energy efficiency. Older patio doors, especially those with single-pane glass or worn-out seals, are notorious for air leaks and poor insulation. This allows conditioned air to escape in the summer and precious heat to seep out in the winter, forcing your HVAC system to work overtime. Our modern patio doors, on the other hand, are engineered with advanced features like double or even triple-pane insulated glass, with 4 layers of low-emissivity (Low-E) coatings, and airtight frames. These innovations on our doors drastically reduce heat transfer, leading to noticeable savings on your utility bills and a more comfortable indoor climate year-round. You'll find yourself reaching for the thermostat less often, enjoying consistent temperatures without drafts or hot spots.

Improved Home Security

Beyond energy savings, new patio doors significantly improve your home's security. Outdated doors can be vulnerable points, with flimsy locks, weak frames, or easily compromised glass. Our contemporary patio doors are designed with robust multi-point locking systems and reinforced frames, making them far more difficult for intruders to breach. This added layer of protection offers invaluable peace of mind, knowing that your home and loved ones are better safeguarded.

Visually Appealing

Aesthetics play a huge role in home enjoyment and curb appeal, and new patio doors can deliver a dramatic visual upgrade. Faded frames, scratched glass, or dated designs can detract from your home's overall appearance. Imagine replacing those tired doors with sleek, modern sliders that glide effortlessly, or elegant French doors that open to reveal a picturesque view. With an extensive array of styles, materials (vinyl, fiberglass, wood, aluminum), finishes, and hardware options available, you can choose doors that perfectly complement your home's architectural style and your personal taste. When you work with our experts you get to design your ideal door from the ground up. This fresh, updated look not only enhances your daily living experience but also significantly boosts your home's market value.

Convenience and Functionality

The convenience and functionality of new patio doors are also major advantages. Sticky rollers, warped frames, and difficult-to-operate latches are common frustrations with aging doors. New doors, built with precision engineering, offer smooth, effortless operation. Whether you choose sliding doors that conserve space, swinging French doors that provide a grand entrance, or bi-fold doors that completely open up an entire wall, the ease of use will be a welcome change. This seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces encourages more natural light to flood your home, creating a brighter, more expansive feel.

Durability & Reduced Maintenance

Finally, considering new patio doors is a smart move for long-term durability and reduced maintenance. Old doors can demand constant upkeep, from repainting and caulking to repairing sticky mechanisms. At Conservation Construction our patio doors constructed from low-maintenance materials that resist warping, rotting, and fading, requiring little more than occasional cleaning. This frees up your time and saves you money on ongoing repairs, allowing you to simply enjoy your beautiful and functional new entryway for years to come.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, investing in new patio doors is a multi-faceted decision that brings a wealth of benefits. From significant energy savings and enhanced security to a stunning aesthetic transformation and effortless functionality, new patio doors are a wise upgrade that will pay dividends in comfort, value, and peace of mind. They are, quite simply, a clear view to a brighter, more enjoyable home. Get your free quote for a new patio door today by visiting our website here.

From Ancient Rome to Modern Homes: A History of Patio Doors

Patio doors, those gateways to our outdoor spaces, have a fascinating history that spans centuries and continents. While their modern form is often associated with mid-20th century America, their origins can be traced back much further.

Ancient Beginnings:

Evidence suggests that sliding doors, a precursor to modern patio doors, were used in Roman homes as early as the first century CE. Archeological sites in Pompeii have revealed remnants of these doors, which were typically suspended from the ceiling and moved along a track. These early sliding doors offered a practical solution for maximizing space and connecting interior living areas with courtyards or gardens.

Eastern Influence:

Some historians believe that the development of modern patio doors was also influenced by traditional Japanese architecture. The "shoji," a sliding door made of translucent paper and a wooden frame, has been used in Japanese homes for centuries. This design, with its emphasis on light and the seamless connection between indoors and outdoors, may have inspired the use of glass in patio doors, creating a similar effect with more durable materials.

The Rise of Glass:

The widespread availability of affordable glass in the 20th century played a crucial role in the evolution of patio doors. As glass production techniques improved, it became possible to create large, sturdy panes that could be incorporated into door designs. This led to the development of the sliding glass door, which became increasingly popular in the post-World War II era.

Modern Innovations:

Over the years, patio doors have continued to evolve, with manufacturers focusing on improving energy efficiency, security, and aesthetics. Double-paned glass, weather stripping, and advanced locking mechanisms have become standard features, making modern patio doors both functional and stylish.  At Conservation Construction we have a wide array of new patio doors. Your Guide To French Patio Doors

Do you have questions about French Patio Doors? What are French Patio Doors? How do they function? Are French Patio Doors energy efficient? We’ll cover the answers to all of these questions in today’s article. Please keep reading to learn more . . .

What Is A French Patio Door

French Patio Doors are a type of patio door that are hinged on the sides and swings open and closed. They can sometimes be referred to as a hinged patio door. French doors got their name after first appearing in France. French patio doors allow an abundance of natural light into your home and typically feature stylish grilles. They do have a nice old world look, and add a ton of charm to any space.

Function

Since both doors can open on a French Patio Door you can get optimal breezes all year long. They also swing open and lock easily. They are just as easy to function and operate as a Sliding Glass Door.

Energy Efficiency

French Patio Doors are just as energy efficient as Sliding Patio Doors. That’s because we use a specialty coating on all our doors which blocks the harmful UV rays from entering your home. This does two things; it keeps the heat outside, and it protects the inside of your home from becoming bleached. In fact, switching from an inefficient patio door to a new door can save you up to 40% off your total energy costs. If your Patio Door has gone past the 20 Year mark it is definitely time to consider having your door replaced.

Can You Replace Your Sliding Glass Door With A French Patio Door?

Yes! It is possible to get your Sliding Glass Door replaced with a French Patio Door. If you like the style better, we would urge you to get a free quote for this new style!

What Makes A Hinged Patio Door Different Than A French Patio Door?

Hinged Patio Doors are different from French Patio Doors because they have 1 door which is hinged instead of two doors on a French Patio Door. They also have glass on one side of this door to add additional light.

Grills

You can get custom grills in the door to match existing windows or to simply add more charm. This feature is really one of the sole things that sets the French Patio Door apart from the Sliding Glass Door. Sliding Glass Doors don’t ever feature grills.

Do You Need To Replace Your Patio Door?

This is an excellent question that I’m sure a lot of people ask. It’s not a matter of if you need to replace it. If you’re reading this article we’re sure you’re already considering replacing your patio door; it’s more a matter of when.

Factors To Consider

Here at Conservation Construction it’s not just one factor alone that might want you to consider switching out your patio door but two or more. If you have any combination of more than two of the things listed below it may be time to consider switching to a new patio door . . .

Just one of these things is a hassle to deal with, but if you’ve got multiple of these issues going on really it is time to start considering when you’re going to get your patio door replaced. New patio doors are energy efficient, slide easily, have a seal that keeps the insulating gas inside the door for years, and have clear views.

New Doors Slide Easier

I for one had a patio door that wouldn’t lock and slide easily and I didn’t realize how much it inconvenienced my day to day life.  When I simply switched out the old door for a new one I could access my mud room easily and I didn’t wonder if my house was safe, because  I have locks that actually work now. Trust me, you should have a door that slides and locks easily at the very least because this is one of the main ways to enter your home. You don’t want to struggle with your door. Your door should be working for you not against you.

Other Reasons To Switch

There are other reasons you want to switch out your doors if you have more than one of these problems going on too. For one cracked or broken glass is an eyesore. Not to mention that cracked glass and condensation indicate broken seals which means the doors have lost their energy efficient properties. They are not protecting or insulating your home from the weather outside. If you live in a place like Texas you definitely want a door that protects you against the extreme sun that hits our houses in the summer. The amazing new patio doors we sell at Conservation Construction do just that.

Supreme Screens

If your screen is torn it is oftentimes very hard to find the right size you need to replace the screen door. If you choose a new door it comes with a screen door that fits the exact measurements of the patio door and all of our products are backed by a lifetime limited warranties so if anything happens to any part of the door, we’ll replace it under the warranty.

Clear Views

Another huge benefit to getting a new patio door is it can give you an entirely new perspective. Literally. You’ll be able to see better out of your glass every day. With all that sunlight and beautiful views, you’re bound to be in a better mood.

Most people don’t realize how much energy can slip through the cracks of an old Patio Door. Today’s patio doors are much better at insulating homes than their predecessors, so if your energy bills are on the rise, it’s worth considering a replacement. Additionally, over time, weather stripping, insulating gas, and other components can affect all the energy saving properties.

If you see condensation stuck between the glass it means that the insulating gas seal has been broken, and the door is no longer doing its job properly.  Gaps and cracks in the frame of your patio door are not only unsightly, but they can also let in drafts and cause your energy bills to skyrocket. If you notice any cracks or gaps, it’s time to invest in a new door. These are all good things to keep in mind when examining your own door.

Do you feel cold air coming from your patio door? Old Patio Doors which are more than 15 years old can become extremely logged down with inefficiency and malfunctioning parts. These inefficient parts can cause gaps and improper insulation. In fact, old patio doors can drag down your home's overall energy efficiency by up to 35%. If you’re asking yourself why your energy bill has been so high recently, your old patio door could be a huge part of the problem. Stop letting outside breezes come in and steal all of your warm air. Keep reading to learn more about energy efficient patio door replacement, and how it can help your home save energy all year long.

Tight Seals

One of the best features of new patio doors is their phenomenal seals. Because we create the door to your exact door measurements the door has a top-notch seal. The door itself is insulated and has no gaps to ensure the best protection against unwanted air infiltration. This also means it keeps out unwanted elements and debris from entering your home. Say goodbye to cold air seeping in through the gaps and hello to lower energy costs and stable room temperatures.

Argon Fill Insulation

Between each sliding door panel we fill our doors with an argon gas fill. This argon gas fill insulates better than air alone and truly keeps a barrier between the outside air and the inside air. This means it will reduce even further the feeling of cold coming from your patio door. This argon gas sits between the panes for the life of the door protecting your home and insulating. If your door is past the 15 year mark, it may have lost all of its insulating gas by this point and it would be a great time to consider replacing your patio door for a more energy efficient option.

Interesting History About Patio Doors

Thank you for joining us for another article. We can’t wait to cover some interesting history about patio doors you may have never known before. Let’s jump right in!

Sliding doors were found in Roman houses as early as the first century CE, according to archeological sites in ancient Pompeii.

Development

The Sliding Glass or Patio Doors we know today came during the pre-war era during the start of the 20th century, and were developed heavily at the start of World War II. It was speculated by historians these doors were fashioned after Japanese doors called Shoji–a sliding translucent door hung by a wood frame.

In 1954, Dee Horton and Lew Hewitt invented the first sliding automatic door. The automatic door used a mat actuator. In 1960, they co-founded Horton Automatics Inc and placed the first commercial automatic sliding door on the market.

French Doors

French doors, or two adjoining doors with glass panes from top to bottom, are a popular feature in today's homes, but the design actually did originate in france. The first set of French Doors was designed in the 17th century during the French Renaissance period.

Though originally made with aesthetics in mind, French patio doors are about more than just good looks. The large glass area allows ample light and exterior views. At the time, it was atypical for doors to have large glass areas and this is what made this door unique. French patio doors also excel in ventilation as they swing very widely and have the unique ability to catch side breezes.

Modern Doors

Modern sliding doors aren't just easy to operate, they're also extremely secure. Many are fitted with multi-locking points, and can only be locked from the inside. This gives an extremely secure entry point to your home. This is a huge improvement from the past where doors used to be able to be lifted off their frames.

Specialty Coatings

A Pilkington and German firm Flachglas Group created the first commercially viable low-E coatings using thin layers of gold. But the coatings produced a green hue, leading German glass manufacturer Interpane to develop the first colorless low-E coating using silver layers in 1981. This method was widely spread and made it way to the United States. Today, patio doors don’t come without these protective coatings to ensure protection against UV rays. These coatings help prevent bleaching of flooring and furniture, as well as keep your home a more stable room temperature all year long.

It took a long time to develop energy efficient patio doors. Advancements in technology along with supreme engineering have made modern patio doors, like the kind we sell at Conservation Construction,  more energy efficient than older doors with low-quality frames or single panes. Heat transfer rates are described using a figure known as U-value, with higher U-values meaning poorer energy efficiency. Our U-Values are so low on our Patio Doors that you can expect to see a reduction in energy costs by up to 40%.

Final Thoughts

We hope you’ve learned a little bit of history about how the modern patio door came to be. Through many years of development and engineering, new patio doors are able to protect your home better, insulate, and give you clear views for the life of the door. Protection from UV rays

Protection against air infiltration

Optimum insulating properties

Protection against Forced Entry

Beauty

A great new patio door should save you a ton of money off your energy bill year round and help you feel more comfortable.

Insulation Properties

What makes new patio doors so insulating? There are several factors actually. The first is a gas which is pumped between the panes. At Conservation Construction we use a Argon Gas mixture. This mixture is denser than air and sits between the panes for life creating a protective insulating barrier between the outside and inside air. This mixture insulates better than air and is a key element in keeping your doors energy efficient.

UV Protection

Another insulating factor to our doors is their ability to reflect light. We use a specialty coating Called Low-E Glass Coating which is placed on the glass. This coating, which is nearly invisible to the naked eye, bounces radiant heat back outward where it belongs. That’s because the mixture has 4 layers of protection which bounce harmful UV rays back outside. Not only will your home be a more stable temperature all year long, but you will not have to deal with bleached floors or furniture any longer.

To better understand how glass impacts performance and efficiency, explore The Glass You Get In Your Patio Door Matters for insights on choosing the right glass for your home.

Foam Filled Frames

The last insulating factor is that we fill our frames with foam. This foam creates another solid barrier of protection against outside temperatures. They are manufactured with the glass to ensure top protection against unwanted air infiltration.

Together

It’s all of these factors working together that make a switch to new patio doors so insulating and energy efficient for you.

These doggie doors feature a solid frame designed for long-term, frequent use by active pets. The flap is magnetic to seal properly! Which type of door is best for your patio door replacement? Is it Sliding Glass or French Patio? Keep reading to learn more about both styles and which one might be the best option for your home.

Design

Both styles of door are unique, distinct and available in varying options. Consider the configuration you are aiming for in order to fully evaluate both styles. Although both styles of doors let in a lot of natural light, the patio slider can have large panes of glass, letting in a flood of natural light and allowing unobstructed views of the outdoors. For this reason, they can also create an illusion of having a larger space, similar to the effect a mirror can have on a room. If you want to control the light or add privacy, built-in blinds are an out-of-the-way, easy-care design feature available on sliding patio doors. Some homeowners feel that sliding glass doors don’t match the style of older homes as well as traditional French doors.

Space

Although sliding glass doors can provide more flexibility with furniture arrangement in a room, French doors can (based on your configuration) provide a wider opening If you are moving large furniture into your house or hosting parties where there will be a lot of foot traffic in and out, you may be limited by the width of the patio slider.

A traditional two-panel French door, where both doors are operable, provides the option of opening about twice as wide as a two-panel sliding patio door. Perfect for moving things in and out or hosting large crowds of people, but this configuration requires more floor space to open and close. You need to be aware of the path your doors make when you're designing the plan of your room because you won't be able to place anything too close to the doors if you want them to open fully. Whereas with a sliding patio door you don’t need to account for this space at all because they slide from side to side.

Energy Efficiency

Both options of patio door replacement are extremely energy efficient when you choose to replace from Conservation Construction. That’s because we use a specialty coating called Low-E Glass. This particular coating sits on the glass for life and keeps harmful UV rays from entering your house. This coating is nearly invisible to the naked eye but does keep your home a more stable temperature all year long. In addition, our patio doors stop air infiltration so you get even better energy savings all year long. So get year round comfort by switching today.

Functionality

Would you prefer your door to slide or open wide? No matter which option you choose you’ll get lifelong functionality with utmost protection out of either door. Our Patio Doors were made to slide easily for life and lock up securely. On the flip side if you choose a French Patio Door they are too made for durability and ease of operation. Choose a door based on how you want it to function for the rest of your life because that’s how long our doors last!

We’ve all heard the expression quality over quantity. I usually hear this when people refer to their friends. It can also be applied to your new patio door. If you need to replace your old Patio Door with a new one, quality is definitely preferred not just over quantity but over price. Another expression, “You get what you pay for” comes to mind as well. To get a true long lasting door you should get quality, a good warranty, and ensure the door is energy efficient. Keep reading to learn more . . .

What To Know important Information About Patio Door Replacement

So what information should you know before you get a new Patio Door? This information includes; important Information About Patio Door Replacement

  1. Glass & Energy Efficiency
  2. Frame
  3. Installation
  4. Warranties

If you remember these four steps you’re pretty much set. As you can see, we’ve labelled glass as the top thing to remember.

Glass & Energy Efficiency important Information About Patio Door Replacement

One of the most essential parts of a patio door is its energy efficient properties. Low-E Glass and insulated gas pockets ensure that your patio door stays energy efficient for life. At Conservation Construction we use a specialty Low-E coating with 4 layers of protection. We also combine argon gases together which sit between the glass to insulate better than air alone. In fact, our clients who switch to Conservation Patio Doors can see a savings of up to 40% off their total energy costs.

Frame

Now to key point number two; the frame. The frame of the door is important for longevity and functionality. The wheels, hardware and frame should all be made for durability. Make sure you get a frame that is resistant to fading and scratches. Make sure that whatever nature or you throw at the frame it stays the same. At Conservation Construction normal wear and tear on our patio doors is a thing of the past!

Installation

Key point three is top notch installation. Removing and replacing a Patio Door is a precise process. You need to make sure that you have installers that know what they’re doing. The door needs to sit properly and be insulated on the sides to prevent air infiltration. If a person doesn’t know what they are doing, you’re not going to get all the energy efficiency out of the door you are hoping for. All of our installers here at Conservation Construction have been working in their respective fields for years and years and have the experience necessary to get your door installed the right way the first time.

Check The Warranties

Finally, the warranty is something people forget to ask about, but make sure you ask about it. These warranties should be free with the purchase of the door (unlike electronics) and they guarantee that your door is covered for at least the first ten years. If the company you are going with has not mentioned a warranty that is a huge red flag. Don’t ever go with a company that is not offering warranties. This is kind of a way of them saying they trust their product. If they don’t have warranties they don’t trust their product. If they don’t trust their product, why should you? Here at Conservation Construction we offer Lifetime Limited Warranties.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, remember to ask about glass, frame, installation and warranties when picking out a new patio door. It’s easy to remember the first two because they come on all Patio Doors and are the pieces you look at when you see the door first. If you choose Conservation Construction you’ll get a team of experts that install the door right, and a patio door that lasts for decades to come. Click here for your free quote.

Really, who could ask for a better replacement patio door for their home. We’d love to help you out with a free quote for a new patio door here.

If you’re like millions of other people out there, you may be having a difficult time operating your sliding glass door. It may be malfunctioning, or it may just be very old. In any case, not being able to open your patio door easily is a pane, and sometimes it’s a double pane depending on how much glass is present. So, what can you do about this pesky problem?

It may be easy to think that fixing the sliding glass rollers will fix the problem, but that’s not always the case. Oftentimes a new set of rollers doesn’t fit the door quite right and you’re still not getting optimal functionality or energy efficiency out of the door. Sure a temporary fix may work good for a year or two, but then you’re back at the store buying yet another thing to fix the door.

Lifetime Products

At Conservation Construction we are in it for the long haul, and we want your products to be in it for a lifetime too. So stop buying products that only last a short while and get you to where you were before. Get a new patio door and never worry about your door sliding poorly again.

We guarantee that if you invest in a new patio door you’ll be much happier in the long run. New Patio Doors aren’t just engineered to last a lifetime, they are engineered to stay energy efficient and functional for that entire time too.

Energy Efficiency

Although it may not look it, old patio doors, along with sliding issues, can be sucking energy efficiency right out from your home. Old patio doors can have gaping, warping, cracked glass and gas loss. Any one of these things can bring down the overall energy efficiency of a home. Not to mention that I have seen more than my fair share of patio doors which don’t lock properly anymore either. This is adding another separate issue. You don’t want to have to worry about the security of your home from one compromised patio door. A solitary piece of wood shoved behind the door isn’t exactly secure either . . .

Let’s talk about the benefits of a new patio door and what you can expect if you were to get a new door installed.

New Patio Doors

The development of new patio doors has come a long way over the past decade. Current patio doors of today give you optimal views, energy efficiency, functionality, and beauty. They do this by incorporating amazing structural components with long lasting materials. For instance,  Low-E glass is now used inside most patio doors. This unique coating gives you optimal views with high solar control. This means you’ll get all the beauty of the outdoors, without the sun increasing inside temperatures. It’ll even prevent the UV rays from bleaching furniture inside your home.

Low-E Glass

Our patio doors use Low-E glass which has revolutionized our patio doors to be even more energy efficient than other patio doors on the market today. This unique coating has been said to make other Low-E glass on the market obsolete. Low-E adds a third layer of silver coating. The result is a clear coating that blocks even more solar gain, reflects heat, and lets the light stream in. Low-E actually outperforms tinted glass often used in warm climates.

It’s not just this either. Each component in our line of Patio Doors was made with longevity in mind. That’s why our rollers slide easily for life, our doors lock properly, and they are beautiful while doing it. This is all backed by our lifetime warranties. If you want to talk about a reliable door, just think of Conservation Construction.

Final Thoughts

So if you are struggling with your current patio door and are done with all the hassle, we encourage you to replace the entire door not just components of the door. This will give you years of worry free functionality and energy efficiency. Remember, the little more you invest today the less you’ll have to hassle (and spend) later. Have you needed to replace your patio door for quite some time now? Have you been putting it off because you are not sure what it can/will do for your home? You’re in the right place today then because in today’s article we’re discussing all things patio doors. You’ll get to know all about why it’s the perfect time to get a new patio door. You’ll also learn all the benefits of replacement!

Functionality

There are a ton of things we could have put on the list first. But, in my opinion, this is the most positive improvement a patio door offers a home. Trust me, I used to have a patio door that didn’t slide. I used to have a patio door that wouldn’t lock. Heck, my patio door had so much fog stuck between the panes I couldn't even see through it. Trust me if you have one (or all of these issues) it’s well past time to get your patio door replaced. New patio doors offer the right protection, clear views, and lifelong functionality. You won’t believe the difference it will make in your life just to be able to lock and slide your doors easily. I didn’t even realize the difference it made until we got a new door. It just makes day to day life a little less stressful and who doesn’t want that?

Energy Efficient

The second thing our patio door provides you with is a reduction in energy costs. Old patio doors which have a broken seal just let in whatever comes their way--this includes wind and rain. A new patio door prevents air infiltration. In addition, our new patio doors have a krypton/argon gas fill mixture which insulates better. On average our customers who have switched to a new patio door saved up to 40% off their total energy costs. That’s huge savings when you consider all year round utility bills. Finally, you’ll feel the difference with a more stable room temperature in your home all year long.

Low-E Glass

We use a specialty glass coating called Low-E glass coating which provides the ultimate protection from the sun’s uv rays without destroying the beautiful view. This coating sits on the glass for life and bounces harmful uv rays back outward so they don’t heat your home and don’t bleach your furniture. This Low-E glass coating is exclusive to Conservation Construction and it’s one of the reasons our customers keep purchasing our windows and doors.

Expert Installation & Lifetime Warranties

Our patio doors are installed by the best experts in the market today. They get your installation done correctly the first time. This means once it’s installed you’ll have lifelong functionality. In addition, all of our patio doors come with lifetime limited warranties. If anything ever goes wrong with the screen or door, we’ll replace it under the warranty. Believe me we’ve had many a person call to get their screen fixed after their dog ran through it.

French Doors, energy efficiency, and hinges in all the right places, yes, you can have it all in your next patio door. Get an extremely well made amazing looking door with a Hinged French Patio Door. Try saying that three times fast -- just kidding, don’t, it’s quite a mouthful.

That may be because this door comes jam packed with such great features it’s hard to name them all. We stuff our door with more than a Thanksgiving turkey. In fact, our glass is superior to most other glass on the market today.

Low-E Glass

Most companies use what the industry calls “Low-E glass”. We take Low-E glass to a new extreme level with our exclusive 4 Layer formula. This is just a fancy title for the most energy efficient glass you can find on the market today. It has extreme thermal performance with one of the lowest heat transfers ever recorded. This is due to the layers of protective coating we place on all our patio doors. This prevents the harmful UV rays and heat from penetrating inside the house. What this equates to is lower energy bills and more stable room temperatures all year round. At this point you may want to pick your jaw up off the floor because that’s just the start of our French Doors amazing features. It is my goal to keep dropping your jaw to the floor as we keep going.

Gas Fill

You’re not going to believe this next fact either . . .  All our patio doors, including our amazing French Door, are filled with Argon Gas. The combination of two different gases insulates better than air or Argon gas alone. This gas can escape easily if spacers are not up to par.  It’s our revolutionary Platinum Elite spacer that sits between both panels of glass that keeps the gas from escaping. This spacer doesn’t warp or melt over time like other spacers would. This two point system insures your door will protect against air leakage, which is one of the main reasons for energy loss. With such well built spacers and glass our gas stays between the glass keeping your door more energy efficient for years to come. Here’s the point where your jaw dropped a second time and we’ve dropped the mike!

Beauty

It’s not just the most energy efficient patio doors on the market, it is beautiful too. We work with you to design your door from the ground up. Which means you get custom door panels if you’d like, truly unique hardware, hinges which allow doors swinging the way you want, low heat gain, and functionality. Does your current patio door have all this and energy efficiency? We think not. It’s usually not your fault either, patio doors and old windows were only made to last about 20 years. If you’ve gone past the 20 years it’s just inevitable that the door has worn down.

Lifetime Warranties

Final jaw drop moment . . . All of our products include Lifetime Limited Warranties. This means no matter which door you choose be it French or Sliding Glass it will come with those warranties. We didn’t just engineer this door to last 20 years, we want it to last a lifetime for you! We engineer the door for longevity, and if by chance anything does go wrong with the door, we’ll be out under the warranty to fix it. Why on earth would we engineer a door that lasts this long? Because unlike other companies we pride ourselves in quality products. We don’t just take your money and run. We want this patio door to be as beautiful and energy efficient  today as it is in 20 years. There’s nothing worse than buying something and it breaking down in 2 years (like most cell phones). When you invest this much in your home, it should last.

Quality

There’s no question in my mind that the old staple “quality of quantity” is best when searching for your next patio door. Our doors require little to no maintenance. This item will be in your house for a long time the type of door you choose matters. Make sure you do the required research to get the best door on the market. Energy loss is overlooked in a home because it’s not clear just how much money you’re losing when it comes to energy. If people knew just how energy/money was being leaked to the outside they might put a higher priority into energy saving. So, how much can new windows, siding and doors save you? Keep reading to learn more.

The average American loses 35% of their total energy just through leaks in walls alone. If you add in the lost energy from windows and doors that’s an additional 15-17% more. Think about it, that is 50% of your energy costs or more that are just being seeped outside without your knowledge. Ever wonder why the furnace or AC won’t turn off? It’s probably because your home is not as energy efficient as it could be. Think about if it were how much you’d save in just one month if you switched to energy efficient siding.

New siding can reduce heating and cooling costs all year round because of its insulating properties. This means whether it be Fiber Cement Siding, Cedar Ridge Siding or Vinyl Siding, you’ll get statistically significant savings all year round! Hooray for your wallet! I had a co-worker last year who alone was spending 450$ a month to cool her house. If she got energy star rated efficient windows or siding she could reduce her bill by half. That money would go back into her home and the money would go back into her pocket.

Siding replacement is always a good idea for another reason too, and that’s protection. Not only does new siding insulate, it protects better from storms that may come your way. The base Vinyl siding can withstand winds of up to 110 mph, and Cedar Ridge Siding can withstand winds of up to 160 mph. That’s very good news for your home. You won’t worry when the next storm comes in, because you’ve got the right siding out there to protect you.

Another huge drain of your finances and time is repainting old siding. Old siding fades and needs to get repainted, but new siding does not. Newer sidings such as Fiber Cement and Cedar Ridge have new color technologies which ensure the longevity of color. That’s right, new siding will never have to be painted again! It’s okay to cheer at this part after you learn you’ll save money from this expensive forever!

If you see cracked or warped panels on your current siding this could be hiding an underlying issue. Water damage is not always easily seen, but it can damage more than just the siding alone. If water has gotten through the cracks and into the foundation, this could spell major problems down the line. Forget air leaks and heat loss, if water has damaged the foundation it could cost you thousands upon thousands of dollars to fix. We recommend you get replacement siding before this happens.

Finally, siding adds back 75% of the value in equity you put into the project initially. When selling, you’ll have better curb appeal, and you can ask for a higher price from potential buyers. Both of these things ensure a great future for you!

In conclusion, we’ll recap. 35% of the total energy you use goes right out with the breeze if you don’t have energy efficient products. You can potentially save up to half of your total energy bill if you switch out all 3 things which are; windows, siding and doors. Finally, new siding gives back 75% in equity what it costs, it adds curb appeal, never has to be painted again, saves energy, protects better and insulates more. New siding gives you huge savings down the line. You can get at free quote for new windows, siding or doors.

Hinged Patio Doors are most often found on French Patio Doors. So what are they exactly? In today’s article we’re going to cover hinged patio doors. Keep reading to learn about this technology.

What does Hinged Patio Doors Mean?

Hinged patio doors mean the hinges sit on the outside of the door or doors. You can have a single hinged patio door or French style which open on both sides. Hinged Patio Doors Maximizes space with the ability to open into a room or outward to best fit your home's layout.  French doors are the most common style of door.

Style

Perhaps one word best describes hinged patio doors: elegant. Traditional in design, their two operating glass panels are hinged on the sides and swing inward or outward from the center. This gives you the ability to open them up and have big breezes and bold views. French patio doors like this give you an old world traditional look. This gives sophistication and class to any space. It’s hard not to notice them when you walk into a room.

Energy Efficiency

Just because they are hinged on both sides doesn’t make these types of patio doors any less energy efficient. If you choose a French patio door from Conservation Construction it is still made with energy efficient glass which reflects heat back outward and keeps your home a stable room temperature all year long. In addition, we put insulating gases between the glass panels to ensure that they protect against air infiltration and drastic temperature shifts.

Safety

As far as safety goes these doors are just as safe as traditional style sliding glass doors. At Conservation Construction both styles of our patio doors have superior locks. These locks have been tested to ensure your family is safe and sound. Modern hardware ensures that they look seamless with the door as well. You get to design the door from the ground up so it fits just the look you are going for.

Functionality For Life

New french or hinged patio doors also give you functionality for life. Are you currently struggling to open your current patio door? Stop struggling. Any new type of patio door can give you ease of operation. You can even convert your old sliding patio door to a new French hinged patio door if you prefer that style. Not to mention that Conservation Construction gives Lifetime Limited warranties to all of our customers! So your new patio door will be backed by our warranty for life!

Final Thoughts

We hope you’ve learned a lot about hinged patio doors. Remember this style can come with double swinging French Style doors or it can come with a center hinged swinging door. This style of patio door gives you elegance, and is still extremely energy efficient. Lastly, remember that Conservation Construction gives you lifetime limited warranties with any new patio door you choose. Get functionality for life by getting a new patio door. How To Tell If You Need A New Patio Door

If you don’t know the tell tale signs of needing a new patio door, they are easy to spot. Most problems with an old patio door are glaringly obvious to those who have one, but in case the problems aren’t obvious to you keep reading to see what you may want to watch out for and when you may need to get a new patio door.

The top signs you may need a new patio door are:
1. Fog or condensation stuck between the glass
2. Hardware that doesn’t lock or is loose
3. Doors that don’t slide or open properly
4. Cold air coming through the door

In all seriousness, all the above problems happened to me with my old patio door.

In fact, all three things happened at once. It was darn near impossible to close and lock the door, forcing us to put a piece of wood behind the door. The door would hardly slide at all. It was almost as if we had to be professional bodybuilders to even get our patio door open. Finally, the door was old it had a bunch of condensation stuck between the glass which obstructed most of the views. I can tell you from past experience it doesn’t make you happy to stare at a dirty old patio door all day. Cleaning the door with Windex won’t even help, because the condensation is stuck between the glass. Finally, broken seals like this drag down energy efficiency in your home and could be costing you a fortune in extra energy costs.

Listen, I made excuse after excuse for a couple years why we needed to put the patio door off including telling myself . . .

1. It’s too expensive.
2. The door is not that bad, right?
3. Nobody uses that door anyway.
4. The door is like a mini workout and don’t I need to lose weight anyway?

Eventually, I decided to just bite the bullet and get the patio door. Let me tell you, the amount of joy I got from my Patio Door working correctly was 100% worth it. I no longer had to grab an old piece of wood from behind the door. I could now lock the door easily. In addition, the new door slid easily! My house felt safer, it was more energy efficient and, on top of everything else, I had clear views.

All the little things added up to one big epiphany . . . My new patio door gave me an easier life! With life being so stressful and me having to get so many things done in a day, the new door took one thing I worried about out of my head. Now I could worry about all the other things in my life.

Let me give one last example to stress my point. I had an old car. It was terrible. I had to fill the coolant each time I drove the car. The water pump went out first, then the plastic container which held the coolant broke. The blinkers didn’t work, and worst of all the computer that controlled the entire car was broken so the check engine light was always on even when the engine didn’t need to be checked. Each time I had a repair done it would cost me $400-$600 dollars.

Finally, I felt the clutch going out and I just gave up on that car. I let it go. No way was I replacing another darn thing in or around that car. I got a new car and I didn’t have to worry about it again.  I didn’t have to fill it up with coolant each time I wanted to drive somewhere. Additionally, I didn’t have to put my arm out the window to signal which direction I wanted to turn. Sometimes the time and money spent is well worth the hassle.

It’s the same concept with an old patio door. If you stop putting up with all the nonsense and just get a new door you can make your life a heck of a lot easier. Conservation Construction doors are meant to last a lifetime. We build our doors for strength, durability and longevity. Each patio door we sell comes with lifetime limited warranties. Patio Doors are amazing products that sit in our homes. They are often overlooked because they sit at the back of the house. Patio doors aren’t just useful tools for us to use while coming and going from our house, they are pretty interesting too. So today we thought we’d cover some secret facts about patio doors not everybody may know.

Secret Fact #1

Patio Doors are the second most used exterior door in your home right behind your front door. This means this door is getting a lot of use on a day to day basis. With it being used so often, it’s a good idea to have a functional working door that locks securely and is easy to use.

Secret Fact #2

The average person waits 15+ years before they replace their patio door. This means the doors that they are living with are the doors that initially came with the house in most cases. Doors this old have lost most, if not all, of their energy efficiency and functionality. At Conservation Construction we would highly recommend if your door is this old to get it replaced asap.

Secret Fact #3

Patio Doors which are 20+ years old are not as safe as new patio doors. In some cases old patio door sashes could simply be lifted off their tracks and removed - even while the lock was engaged. New patio doors are engineered in a way that you cannot simply remove the door from the track. If you’re concerned about safety, it may be time to consider getting a new patio door.

Secret Fact #4

Patio doors are only as energy efficient as the gas and coatings placed in and on the glass. Patio doors which are old can have seal problems; which means all the energy saving gas which once sat between the panes has most likely dissipated. Advancements in Low-E coatings mean a new patio door can save you a ton on energy costs and prevent your floors and furniture from getting bleached. And, Conservation Construction’s patio doors also offer foam filled frames for even more energy efficiency!

Secret Fact #5

New patio doors are made to last longer and stay energy efficient longer than your previous patio door. At Conservation Construction we want your doors to last and last. That’s why we made changes to our rollers for easy slide operation. We also have custom hardware that locks easily and makes your home safer.

Secret Fact #6

Conservation Construction sells amazing patio doors which are not only energy efficient, durable, and beautiful; but are all backed by lifetime warranties. We sell sliding glass doors and French doors to meet any homeowners needs. You’ll get excellent installation and superb communication throughout the entire process. We have great ratings on google and nextdoor!

Efficient Windows, Doors, and Siding Can Reduce

Your Carbon Footprint

In a world where everybody is getting more environmentally conscious it’s good to know that companies like Conservation Construction make products that save energy and can help the environment. In today’s world you can buy hybrid cars, use less plastic, and even get windows which help with your energy costs and reduce greenhouse emissions. Let’s go over some of the ways windows, siding and doors are changing the world . . .

Not only do energy efficient products save you a ton of money on your energy bills, they also help the world. If everybody were to jump on board and get new windows we could reduce the world’s overall carbon footprint.

Windows

Switching to new windows alone can reduce the annual household’s carbon footprint by up to 12% compared to non-energy efficient products. In addition, energy efficient windows can save between 246-2001 pounds of CO2 a year (equivalent to 13 to 102 gallons of gasoline). On top of helping out our environment, new windows can save you anywhere between 126$ to 465$ a year on energy costs - which will also make you a happier person.

Siding

Siding replacement is a very eco-friendly option. Siding not only reduces your carbon footprint by creating a better energy efficiency for your home, some siding like Vinyl can be installed over most existing exterior substrates to reduce waste. Fiber Cement Siding, which is also available through Conservation Construction, is one of the most Eco-Friendly siding types on the market today. Fiber cement siding emits fewer toxins when destroyed and is made from natural materials like wood-pulp and sand.

Entry Doors & Patio Doors

New energy efficient entry doors and patio doors work the same way as new windows and siding. Doors from Conservation Construction can reduce your energy costs by up to 40%. That’s a huge saving on your energy bill and can help reduce even more carbon emissions.

Energy Efficient Products

Energy Efficient products are always on top ten lists for ways to reduce your carbon footprint. If you have energy efficient exteriors like siding, windows, and new doors this will prevent energy from escaping your home and reduce your overall need to turn up and down the thermostat.

If you’re up for a different type of style you can always switch to a traditional sliding glass patio door which doesn’t swing in or out, allowing it to truly save as much space as possible. They are no less energy efficient than a French patio door, and they give you clear views. They are another great way to access the great outdoors! In addition, Conservation Construction offers a Rivera French sliding patio Door; which gives you the style and look of a French patio door but it operates like a traditional sliding glass door. With this door you can get the best of both worlds.

Easy Operation

Both door styles give you easy operation and functionality. All of the doors we sell at Conservation Construction are high performance doors that give you optimal energy efficiency. Additionally, they operate with ease for life. They are made with high quality rollers, door handles, and latches to ensure smooth use for a lifetime. You’ll never have to struggle with doors that don’t lock properly ever again.

Lifetime Warranties

When you choose a door from Conservation Construction it comes with a limited lifetime warranty. This means there are very few things that could go wrong with the door that aren’t covered under the warranty.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion you can get a patio door that swings whichever way you prefer. If you choose an outward swinging French patio door it can save you a ton of space inside a small area. Or, you could consider switching to a sliding patio door which saves even more space. Are Sliding Glass Doors Double Paned?

Welcome to this fun Friday article where we are discussing patio doors. A huge surface area of patio doors is made up of glass. It’s important to have glass that insulates, protects, and gives you more stable room temperatures inside your home. In today’s article we’ll teach you about patio doors and if they are double pane or not.

Truth be told the concept of double pane glass is a fairly recent invention. It didn’t even make it to the market until 1952 when the welded insulated window idea came out. It was just the next year, in 1953 that insulated glazing came out to protect the windows. This glass found its way into homes the following year giving people better U-factors than ever before.

Double Paned Patio Doors

This specialty glass wasn’t just used in windows. Soon after they made double pan windows, they started making double pane patio doors. Most patio doors today come standard as double pane. Most companies don’t make or sell single pane patio doors anymore. It’s just not common practice any longer because single pane glass does not protect from the weather. Double pane is standard across the board because of its insulation properties and energy efficiency.  Places like Conservation Construction can even make them triple pan as well. Overall a new patio door can save the average homeowner up to 40% on their energy costs. Really, energy efficiency is what new patio doors  were designed for specifically.

Double Paned Patio Doors & U-Factor

The U-factor of a patio door means its ability to regulate energy loss. The lower the U-Factor on a patio door the better it is at maintaining energy efficiency. You’ll find the more coatings and panes of glass a patio door uses the more energy efficient it becomes. This is due to several factors . . .

  1. Gas
    1. New patio doors often come filled with a specialized gas between the panes to ensure a better “cushion” of insulation. This gas is better at insulating than air and prevents the outside temperatures from getting into your home. At Conservation Construction we use a  specialty mix of Krypton/Argon gas to get the best insulation possible. This gas also prevents air infiltration!
  2. Low-E Coatings
    1. Low-E coatings are pretty standard on new patio doors as well. These coatings sit on the glass and have small amounts of silver in them to reflect sunlight back outwards and prevent your home’s temperature from rising. They also prevent bleaching of the floors and furniture on the inside of the home. At Conservation Construction we use a supreme coating called LoE-366 Glass Coating which is better than other standard Low-E coatings. It’s even better at reflecting light back outside while giving you clear views.
  3. Vinyl Frames
    1. The frames of the patio door are just as crucial a part in a superior patio door. The frames hold the glass in place and make the door functional. They must  stay in place, prevent wear, and stand up to extreme weather. Our doors do all that and more. At Conservation Construction we custom make your door based on measurements to ensure that it gets the tightest seal possible. You’ll get an easy to slide door that is functional for life.
  4. Double Panes
    1. Conservation Construction patio doors always come standard with double pane glass but can be made to order with more panes too. You’ll get superior protection against harsh sun and energy loss.

Final Thoughts

We  hope you’ve learned a ton about patio doors this article. Know that it is standard for patio doors today to come with Double Pane glass, but you can even get more panes than that if you go with Conservation Construction. Okay, this may seem like a pretty straight forward article. You might even be thinking, who doesn’t know the differences between a front door and a patio door? But let me tell you the answers aren’t always as easy with these doors as one might think. Let’s start with the definition for one . . .

Front Door: the main entrance to a house.

Patio Doors : doors to an area adjoining a house, esp one that is paved and used for outdoor activities

Difference In Materials

We also happen to know here at Conservation Construction that another main difference of front doors vs patio doors is their makeup. Most front Doors are made of steel or fiberglass, while most patio doors are made of high efficiency glass with vinyl framing components. These are separate materials for several reasons. Patio Doors tend to have big glass to give you clear views to the outdoors. While Front Doors, although they can have glass embedded in the door or sidelights, are not one solid piece of glass.

20 Gauge Steel

The reason why front doors are typically made out of a stronger material such as fiberglass or steel is because they need to have strength against forced entry. That’s why our doors have a 20 Gauge Steel plate which gives you 49% more galvanized steel than a standard 24 Gauge Door. This kind of door will also protect the inside of your home from the outside elements to prevent air infiltration too.

Energy Efficient Glass

The biggest difference is the two doors is that one door, patio doors, are usually made up of glass and a vinyl frame. That’s why it is important for this glass and vinyl frame to have extreme energy efficiency. That’s because these doors protect your home from harsh sunlight and cold winds. At Conservation Construction we use our unique  Glass In all of our windows, and patio doors to ensure energy efficiency. Our glass is extraordinary because it utilizes Low-E Glass Coating and Easy Clean Glass Coating. Not only will your door be able to stop the harmful UV rays from entering your home, but it will keep the inside of your home a more stable room temperature all year round.

Hardware

The last and major difference between front doors and patio doors is the hardware. Front Doors tend to have knobs and handles while patio doors tend to have just handles. This doesn’t mean that both handles and knobs are not super safe. All of our door hardware is super safe.

Front Doors and Patio Doors Compliment Each Other

To have a truly energy efficient house however, it is good to have products that work with each other instead of against each other. If you have both a new front door and a new sliding glass door they create a barrier to create energy savings. This prevents air infiltration from the outside to create a complete energy efficient system for your house. Pair these products with new windows, let me tell you you could reduce your energy costs by a giant proportion.

Thanks for joining us for this article. As we get ready for this holiday weekend we wanted to arm you with some fascinating facts about Patio Doors so you have something to chat about with friends and family.  So, without further ado, let’s jump right into these facts.

  1. Traditional sliding doors designs have two panel sections, one fixed-stationary and one mobile to slide open. It is not considered a true sliding glass door without this feature.
  2. “Handedness" of a sliding door is expressed as seen by an observer outside the building. A left-handed door opens on the left side, and a right-handed door opens on the right. These relationships are sometimes described with the letters O and X, where O is the fixed panel and X is the sliding panel. The O/X notation allows the description of doors with more than two panels.
  3. The sliding glass door was introduced as a significant element of pre-war International style architecture in Europe and North America.
  4. French doors were originally used in the 17th century as windows, not doors. They were brought to America by early settlers of Louisiana, and remain popular in places like New Orleans. These doors provide maximum light to the interior of your home. The glass and visual space makes rooms appear larger.
  5. Security design in the doors is aimed at preventing the doors both fixed and sliding from being lifted off their rails, anti-lift blocks can be fixed to the top of the frame to prevent the lift of the door off its rails, so in theory preventing unauthorized entry to the room when sliding door is in the closed position.
  6. Sliding Glass Patio Doors can save you space in your home because they don’t swing in or out like French Doors do.
  7. New Patio Doors whether it be French or Sliding Glass can save homeowners on average 35% off their total energy bill.
  8. If you choose a Conservation Construction Patio Door you’ll get our amazing customer service and lifetime warranties!

Hinged French Patio Doors Offer Style and Performance

French Doors, energy efficiency and hinges in all the right places, yes, you can have it all in your next patio door.

Advanced Glass for Better Energy Efficiency

Most companies use what the industry calls Low-E glass. We take Low-E glass to a new extreme level with our exclusive Low-E Glass. This is just a fancy title for the most energy efficient glass you can find on the market today. It has extreme thermal performance with one of the lowest heat transference ever recorded. This is due to the 4 layers of protective coating we place on all our patio doors.

Krypton and Argon Gas Improve Insulation

You’re not going to believe this next fact either . . . All our patio doors, including our amazing French Door, are filled with Krypton/Argon Gas.

Custom French Patio Door Design Options

It’s not just the most energy efficient patio doors on the market, it is beautiful too. We work with you to design your door from the ground up. Which means you get custom door panels if you’d like, truly unique hardware, hinges which allow doors swinging the way you want, low heat gain, and functionality. Does your current patio door have all this and energy efficiency? We think not. It’s usually not your fault either, patio doors and old windows were only made to last about 20 years. If you’ve gone past the 20 years it’s just inevitable that the door has worn down.

Lifetime Limited Warranty for Long-Term Value

Final jaw drop moment . . . All of our products include Lifetime Limited Warranties. This means no matter which door you choose be it French or Sliding Glass it will come with those warranties. We didn’t just engineer this door to last 20 years, we want it to last a lifetime for you! When I was little, my parents screen door got torn on accident during a big storm. The door was already worn out so we decided to just get rid of it. We were unable to find a door that fit into place and went without a screen door for the remainder of the time we lived in the house. Let me tell you, it was fly and bee city in the house after that. Heck even a bird flew in once from the backyard and we were unable to get it out of our house for several hours. This sounds like some sort of joke, but it was real life for me.

Of course I’ve heard of people leaving their screen door open on accident and a bird getting in, but this was specifically because we didn’t have a screen door. It’s hard to let the breezes in when you have no barrier protecting your home from the outside world. That’s why screen doors are so essential to a great home.

You might be asking yourself why you should care about what kind of screen you have on your patio door? I mean who really thinks about this when shopping around for new patio doors? It certainly wasn’t the first thing on my mind, or even on my list of questions, when I started shopping around. But if you’re like me and are afraid of the “Creepy Crawlies” getting into your house you may want to start thinking about it before you buy your next patio door.

A good patio door screen protects against most creatures getting into your home. A great patio door screen keeps out even the tiniest creatures too. That’s the difference we strive for here at Conservation Construction. Our patio door screens use a new ultra fine fiber mesh which is much less visible to the eye, so Conservation HD Screens seem to disappear. Smaller fiber size  makes a tighter weave and smaller opening bringing more natural light into your home. This also prevents the smaller bugs from getting through the screen.

This screen practically disappears into the background of your home to the point that you won’t even know it’s there. This means you’ll get clear visibility whether it’s summer or winter. So let’s the kids or dog play outside, because you’ll be able to see them clearly through this revolutionary screen.

Finally, all of our products including our patio doors are made to last. That’s why our screen is ultra strong. It’s also comes backed by a lifetime limited warranty. This ensures you that your screen door will last a lifetime just like it should. On top of this it’s measured to fit perfectly so there is no gapping between the screen and the door itself. This means even less bug infiltration.

Thanks for reading and we’ll see you next time.

We’ve all heard the expression quality over quantity. I usually hear this when people refer to their friends. It can also be applied to your new door. If you’ve been needing to replace your old Patio Door with a new one, quality is definitely preferred not just over quantity but over price. Another expression, “You get what you pay for” comes to mind as well. To get a true long lasting door you need to pay a little extra for quality. We’re not saying you need to break the bank but it certainly helps you and your pocketbook to shop around.

For instance, most people don’t know that we have the same, if not higher quality Patio Doors, than Anderson,, but our warranties last longer and our door is at a more competitive price than theirs.

So what information should you know before you get a new Patio Door? Let’s spell out three simple steps to remember asking about when you are shopping around. These include;

  1. Glass
  2. Frame
  3. Installation
  4. Warranties

If you remember these four steps you’re pretty much set. As you can see, we’ve labelled glass as the top thing to remember. That’s because glass is where most of the energy efficiency comes from. A great glass will be Low-E glass. Ours is a step above that with Low-E Glass. Low-E glass means that it’s been tested for energy efficiency. Layers of protective coating keep the harmful UV rays from coming inside your home. A good Low-E glass keeps your home insulated, giving you more stable room temperatures all year round. In turn, this saves you money on your energy costs. Another key factor in energy efficient doors and windows is the gas that sits between the glass. It’s this gas, we use a Argon gas mix, that creates a barrier of insulation between the panes.

Now to key point number two; the frame. The frame of the door is important for longevity and functionality. The wheels, hardware and frame should all be made for durability. Make sure you get a frame that is resistant to fading and resistant to scratches. Make sure that whatever nature or you throws at the frame it stays the same.

All of our installers here at Conservation Construction have been working in their respective fields for years and years.

In conclusion, remember to ask about glass, frame, installation and warranties. Advocate for yourself and your home. We’re confident that you’ll  get the best Patio Door to fit your needs.

As always comment below on what you think about getting a new Patio Door, and thanks for reading.

Let’s slide into this Friday by discussing Sliding French Doors. After this article maybe you’ll learn enough about these doors to want one for yourself.

Do You Need A New Patio Door?

Before we start talking about doors, you should really ask yourself if you’re in need of a Patio Door? If you have even one of the items listed below you may be in need of a patio door.

Cracks in the glass

Fog or condensation stuck between the glass

A Door that doesn’t slide correctly

Worn out hardware that does not lock

One dire sign that you need a new Patio Door is . . .

If you’re using an old piece of wood shoved behind the door as “A Lock.” Sort of like this . . .

We’d say if this is the case, you're just giving yourself the illusion of safety rather than really having safety. Trust me, I’ve been there. We’ve all been there, but there are better ways to get more protection.

What Does A New Patio Door Give You?

A new Patio Door can give you more protection by just locking correctly, but on top of this you’ll get functionality in many other ways. We’re talking . . .

High performance energy efficiency

Easy slide doors

Top notch Locks

Naturally Clean Glass

A Sliding Patio Door replacement might not be the first thing on your list of things to get done in your home. You may have other more pressing projects at your house that need to get taken care of first. I was there just like you. The “joys” of being a homeowner is that you sometimes (or all the time) have to place “sweat equity” or plain “equity” back into your house. When I think about how much inconvenience my old patio door was causing me, I just couldn’t imagine having to go back to that during the summer months.

Don't Put This Project On The Back Burner

It was easy for me to put fixing the Patio Door on the back burner when it was winter and I wasn’t using it. That’s because I wasn’t wanting to fire up the grill or go outside. Once the summer hit last year, we knew it was time to replace the door. It barely slid. We were using a piece of wood behind the door because the door wouldn’t lock. I had to bend down every time I wanted to go outside. When I reached down to grab the wood out from behind the door I’d almost always get a splinter. Not to mention the fact I’d have to wash my hands from all the dirt on the wood. Nobody should have to go through that just to go outside.

For these functionality alone I would recommend a new Patio Door. I don’t have to crawl on the floor to get the door open. Some people might think of these as too small of issues to consider getting a new door. It all depends on people’s preference.

What Exactly Is A Sliding French Door?

Now that we’ve talked about if you need a new Patio Door and why you’d get one we can now talk about if a Sliding French Patio Door is the best choice for you. Our Riviera French Slider is unique in that it combines two separate doors’ The French Door and the properties of a Sliding Glass Door. With this door you’ll get the old world feel of a traditional French Door, but all the space saving technologies of a Sliding Door.  Really who you get the best of both worlds and who doesn’t love that.

What Sets Our Patio Doors Apart

Finally all of our Patio Doors are made with the same amazing glass as our windows. This means you’ll get a truly energy efficient door. Our doors have been known to save the average homeowner up to 30% off their energy costs. That’s because of our exclusive features working together for longevity and efficiency.

We have LoE-366 glass which provides ultimate thermal performance. It has 3 layers of silver to bounce harmful UV rays back outward. It includes a layer of Neat Glass Coating which uses the power of the sun to decompose matter from the glass. Your door will virtually stay clean all by itself. In addition, we provide a special Krypton/Argon Gas fill between the panes which is a better insulator than air. Our custom locks come with each door and are protected under the warranty.

People have been using Wikipedia for years now for anything like research papers to just plain information on their favorite band. With so many people being able to edit and add their own information to the site, it is no wonder so many people rely on the resource for their daily lives.

Which Projects Are Adding Back To Your House The Most?

Here we come like magic, trying to claim that we can tell you things that Wikipedia can’t tell you about home improvement and equity. It seems a bit unbelievable, right? As a writer of this particular blog it seemed a little outrageous to me too. That was until I realized that there are several things Wikipedia can’t tell you about Home Improvement & Equity. This includes how much particular project will give you back in equity.

A Kitchen Remodel can give you back 80% of the cost you put into the project that you spent remodeling. Windows were also high on value during resale gaining 80% of the total cost back. Both of these options are great ideas to think about before you sell your home, or even if you just want a better looking house! A remodel has been known to lift my spirits and give me renewed hope in my house. We encourage you to do weigh both money back and happiness it will give to you in your life, both are important factors here.

What Is the Difference Between HELOC and HEL and Financing

I don’t think wikipedia can tell you the difference between a HELOC (Home Equity Line Of Credit) and a HEL (Home Equity Loan).  The difference between the two is that HELOC gives you a limit kind of credit like a credit card. You can use a little now you can use a little later. A Home Equity Loan gives you a large lump sum all at once. Both may have a lower interest rates than a typical credit card. The average interest on Home equity loans and HELOCs are around 5% depending on credit score. That’s a ton of savings over a credit card. Financing is a great way to reduce interest rates as well. It too will give a limit to what you can spend, but it usually gives you a time period where you’ll get not interest at all. It’s at those times you can pay off the balance without paying interest at all. This is great for people looking for a ways to skip over interest. This is what sets financing apart from loans.

What Is Sweat Equity?

The definition of sweat equity is this :an interest or increased value in a property earned from labor toward upkeep or restoration. Sweat equity is only as good as the person who is doing the sweat equity. If you decide to do all the labor yourself, but don’t have the skill set, you could end up spending more. Small mistakes can add up to huge costs later. Sweat equity, if done correctly, can save a ton of money off labor. For small projects like painting it is a must. Instead of paying the average contractor 4k to paint your house, you can pocket that cost and get some sun in the process. At the very most you can try to rope your friends in and do it for the costs of a couple pizza’s and paint.

Tax Benefits

The benefits are great with HELs because if you use them to do remodeling projects. If you itemize your deductions you may be able to deduct the interest you paid on the home equity loan. We bet Wikipedia couldn’t tell you that! Some of these loans can give you as long as 20 years to pay back the loan which is great if you want to pay home renovations back slowly. A home equity loan is set for a one time set dollar amount. Determine how much your project will cost before applying for a loan. After you calculate the cost up, add 10%-15% more for overrun on costs as a precaution.

Using A Loan Or Financing Makes Sense For Home Improvements

Finally, using Financing, HELOCs, or HELs is a great way to get home improvement done based one everything above. Just remember the list below and you’ll be fine. The benefits of these types of loans include

  1. Lower Interest Rates to 0% interest for a period of time depending what you plan you choose.
  2. Tax Deductions/ benefits can bring down cost.
  3. Spreading payments over a long period of time to manage upfront cost.
  4. You’ll have comfort and equity put back into the home for a sale later.
