How To Tell If You Need A New Patio Door

If you don’t know the tell tale signs of needing a new patio door, they are easy to spot. Most problems with an old patio door are glaringly obvious to those who have one, but in case the problems aren’t obvious to you keep reading to see what you may want to watch out for and when you may need to get a new patio door.

The top signs you may need a new patio door are:
1. Fog or condensation stuck between the glass
2. Hardware that doesn’t lock or is loose
3. Doors that don’t slide or open properly
4. Cold air coming through the door

In all seriousness, all the above problems happened to me with my old patio door.

In fact, all three things happened at once. It was darn near impossible to close and lock the door, forcing us to put a piece of wood behind the door. The door would hardly slide at all. It was almost as if we had to be professional bodybuilders to even get our patio door open. Finally, the door was old it had a bunch of condensation stuck between the glass which obstructed most of the views. I can tell you from past experience it doesn’t make you happy to stare at a dirty old patio door all day. Cleaning the door with Windex won’t even help, because the condensation is stuck between the glass. Finally, broken seals like this drag down energy efficiency in your home and could be costing you a fortune in extra energy costs.

Listen, I made excuse after excuse for a couple years why we needed to put the patio door off including telling myself . . .

1. It’s too expensive.
2. The door is not that bad, right?
3. Nobody uses that door anyway.
4. The door is like a mini workout and don’t I need to lose weight anyway?

Eventually, I decided to just bite the bullet and get the patio door. Let me tell you, the amount of joy I got from my Patio Door working correctly was 100% worth it. I no longer had to grab an old piece of wood from behind the door. I could now lock the door easily. In addition, the new door slid easily! My house felt safer, it was more energy efficient and, on top of everything else, I had clear views.

All the little things added up to one big epiphany . . . My new patio door gave me an easier life! With life being so stressful and me having to get so many things done in a day, the new door took one thing I worried about out of my head. Now I could worry about all the other things in my life.

Let me give one last example to stress my point. I had an old car. It was terrible. I had to fill the coolant each time I drove the car. The water pump went out first, then the plastic container which held the coolant broke. The blinkers didn’t work, and worst of all the computer that controlled the entire car was broken so the check engine light was always on even when the engine didn’t need to be checked. Each time I had a repair done it would cost me $400-$600 dollars.

Finally, I felt the clutch going out and I just gave up on that car. I let it go. No way was I replacing another darn thing in or around that car. I got a new car and I didn’t have to worry about it again.  I didn’t have to fill it up with coolant each time I wanted to drive somewhere. Additionally, I didn’t have to put my arm out the window to signal which direction I wanted to turn. Sometimes the time and money spent is well worth the hassle.

It’s the same concept with an old patio door. If you stop putting up with all the nonsense and just get a new door you can make your life a heck of a lot easier. Conservation Construction doors are meant to last a lifetime. We build our doors for strength, durability and longevity. Each patio door we sell comes with lifetime limited warranties. In conclusion, it’s easy to make excuses to not get a new patio door but it’s even easier, and makes your life better, to just get a new one. Stop fighting with fog between the glass, a door that doesn’t open, unsafe hardware, and no energy efficiency. Get a new patio door to get top notch longevity, energy efficiency and functionality.
