Tips To Get Rid Of Wasps Nests Near Your Siding & Windows

Conservation Construction, Wasp Removal, Window Replacement, Siding Replacement,

Have you noticed some wasps in the area? They may be closer than you think. Wasps love to make their nests near windows and siding. They especially love the areas of shelter underneath soffit and fascia on a house. Wasps nests are easy to spot not just because of the wasps in the area, but also because of their ugly brownish looking nests. See picture below.

It is such a nuisance to have to deal with wasp nests. I’ve had to deal with more than my fair share throughout my life, and they are not as easy to get rid of as one might think. In today’s article we’ll give you some solutions on ways to get rid of wasp’s nests easily.

Insecticidal Spray

This is probably the easiest solution. Stand far back and use the spray to coat the outside of the wasp’s nests. Wasp spray is an insecticide that combines several main wasp neutralizing chemicals called pyrethroids. Wasp spray releases these chemicals in a powerful blast that knocks down wasps from out of the air. After you’ve sprayed you can gently remove the nest without fear of getting stung. This spray can be bad for you to breathe in, so use caution when spraying.

Garbage Bag Method

If you’d rather not spray you can always wait until the wasps are a little more tired. You can approach the nest at night when the workers and queen are present to assure you have all the wasps gathered together. Slowly cover the nest with a garbage bag. Then you can detach the nest carefully from the wall placing it in the garbage bag. Once you seal the bag, the wasps are trapped inside the bag and you can dispose of it properly. This solution is easy without fear of spraying toxic chemicals everywhere.

Power Wash The Nest Away

This one is a bit more risky but is great for those nests that are out of reach. You can always use a power washer to dislodge the nest from its spot. Water will prevent the wasps from flying and once the nest is on the ground you can dispose of it properly. You can also use pressure washing to clear off your siding while you’re out there cleaning the nest away.

Natural Remedies

There is one really cool natural remedy to deter wasps and that is peppermint oil. If you’ve noticed you’ve had to clean off wasp nests several times from your siding or windows you can place a little diluted peppermint oil in the frequented areas and this will deter wasps from nesting. The cool thing about it is that it also deters other nasty bugs as well – and it’s not harmful to you or the creatures.

Stay Vigilant

Just because you’ve removed a nest doesn’t mean another one can’t form in the same spot. You’ll want to check back on the area where the nest was to ensure they haven’t started yet another colony. If they have, it’s best to do the same steps again before the nest gets any bigger.

Final thoughts

Remember, you can use a multitude of methods to get rid of wasps. Use insecticidal spray, take down the nest at night, or pressure wash the nest away. Use peppermint oil to deter the wasps from placing other nests again.
