If you are replacing a window, patio door, entry door, or shower enclosure, you may hear the term “safety glass.” That label covers several products, but tempered and laminated glass are two of the most common choices used in homes.
They may look similar once installed, yet they react very differently to impact. Learning how each type is made, how it breaks, and where it is commonly used makes it easier to choose the right glass for the opening.
Tempered glass is heat-treated for added strength and breaks into small, relatively blunt pieces when damaged. Laminated glass uses two or more panes bonded around a flexible interlayer that helps hold the cracked glass together.
Tempered glass is commonly selected for safer breakage and heat resistance. Laminated glass may be preferred when security, sound reduction, UV protection, or keeping damaged glass in place is a priority. Building codes and the location of the opening may also determine which type is required.
Standard glass - often called annealed glass - goes through a slow cooling process after it is formed. This process makes the glass easier to cut and shape during manufacturing, but it can break into large, sharp pieces when damaged. Those shards are where injuries happen.
Safety glass, by contrast, is engineered to break in a way that reduces the risk of serious cuts or complete structural failure. Both tempered glass and laminated glass qualify as safety glass, but they achieve that goal through completely different methods.

Tempered glass starts as ordinary annealed glass, then goes through a controlled heating and rapid cooling process. The outside surfaces cool more quickly than the center, creating internal compression that makes the finished glass stronger than untreated glass.
The result is architectural glass that can handle impacts and temperature changes better than regular glass. When it does break, it shatters into small, relatively blunt pieces instead of large, sharp fragments. This breakage pattern generally reduces the risk of severe cuts, although broken tempered glass should still be handled carefully.
You encounter tempered glass more often than you probably realize. In residential construction, it is commonly used in patio doors, entry doors, shower enclosures, and certain windows positioned near floors, doors, stairs, or other high-traffic areas.
Building codes may require safety glazing in these locations because accidental contact is more likely. However, the exact requirements depend on the dimensions, placement, and use of the glass.

Laminated glass takes a different approach entirely. Instead of altering the glass through heat, lamination bonds two or more panes of glass together using an interlayer - most commonly polyvinyl butyral (PVB). Polyvinyl butyral is a plastic-based resin that is incredibly tough and flexible, and it is what keeps laminated glass from falling apart when it breaks.
The interlayer helps the glass remain together after an impact. The panes may crack, but many of the broken pieces stay attached to the flexible layer rather than immediately falling out of the opening.
That matters when you think about noise reduction, protection against accidental impact, added security and keeping damaged glass in place.
The most familiar example of laminated glass is your car's windshield. A windshield is designed to crack on impact without immediately collapsing inward onto the driver. That is the lamination doing its job.
A similar principle can apply when laminated glass is used in residential windows, patio doors or entry doors. Even after the glass cracks, the interlayer may help the opening remain intact until the damaged unit can be repaired or replaced.
Both products qualify as safety glass, but they serve different purposes. Here is how they compare across the most important factors.

In residential construction, building codes often require approved safety glazing in areas where accidental impact is more likely. Common examples may include glass in or near doors, shower enclosures, stairways and certain low-positioned windows.
A window close to the floor does not automatically require safety glass. Code requirements can depend on several factors, including the exposed glass area, the height of the upper and lower edges, and the window's proximity to a walking surface.
Depending on the application, approved safety glazing may include tempered glass, laminated glass or another compliant product. Local requirements and project conditions can also vary, so a qualified window or door professional should confirm the appropriate glass for each opening.
The honest answer is that it depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
If you are replacing shower doors, a sliding patio door, or any glass near floor level, tempered glass is usually the standard and the right call. It meets code, it is cost-effective, and its breakage pattern minimizes injury risk.
If you are focused on security, noise reduction, UV protection, or impact resistance - especially for entry doors and windows facing the street - laminated glass is worth the additional investment. The interlayer does real work that tempered glass simply cannot replicate.
In some high-performance window systems, you will find both. A window unit might use one tempered pane and one laminated pane in an insulated glass configuration to get the benefits of both. This is increasingly common in energy-efficient replacement windows designed for variable climates.
Tempered or laminated glass is only one part of a replacement window. Most modern windows use an insulated glass unit made with multiple panes, Low-E coatings, gas fills such as argon, spacers, seals, and a durable frame system.
The right glass configuration may also vary from one opening to another. A window near a door, stairway, floor, or high-traffic area may require approved safety glazing, while a street-facing window may benefit from laminated glass for added sound control and glass retention.
Frame construction, glass coatings, spacers, gas fills, installation, and the condition of the opening all affect how the finished window performs. Comparing the complete window system is more useful than choosing tempered or laminated glass by itself.
Tempered and laminated glass are both safety-glazing options, but they solve different problems. Tempered glass breaks into smaller pieces, while laminated glass remains attached to its interlayer after cracking.
The best choice for your replacement windows depends on the location of each opening, applicable building codes, outside noise, security concerns, UV exposure, and your goals for comfort and performance. Different rooms may call for different glass configurations rather than one option throughout the entire home.

New windows are a significant investment, but they can lead to substantial savings on your energy bills. This is because old, inefficient windows are a major source of heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer, forcing your HVAC system to work overtime to maintain a comfortable temperature. By upgrading to modern, energy-efficient windows, you can drastically reduce this energy waste and save money in the long run.
Heat transfer through windows occurs in several ways. Conduction is the transfer of heat through the window pane itself. Convection is the transfer of heat through air currents between the panes or around the window frame. Radiation is the transfer of heat through infrared waves from the sun.
Old windows, especially single-pane windows, are poor insulators and allow a significant amount of heat to escape or enter your home through these processes. If you have really old aluminum windows those will expand and contract in the sun and are extremely inefficient.
Our modern energy-efficient windows are designed to combat these heat transfer mechanisms with several key features:

The exact amount you can save on your energy bills depends on several factors, including your climate, the age and condition of your old windows, and the type of new windows you install. However, the Department of Energy estimates that replacing single-pane windows with energy efficient windows windows can save the average homeowner between $101 and $583 a year. These savings can help offset the initial cost of the windows over time, making them a smart long-term investment for your home and your wallet.

As you can see from above new windows are a great investment because they can reduce your energy costs by preventing solar heat gain and unwanted air infiltration. New windows on average can save you up to 40% off your total energy costs. If you'd like a free quote for new window replacement please reach out to us today for your free quote.

Are you considering getting new windows, but are not sure what kind of style to choose? Grids are a unique and fun way to add personality to a home. Keep reading to learn more about window grids and if they may be a good choice for your home!Â
Originally, grids were used to secure separate panes of glass together. Today, they merely create the appearance of smaller panes of glass from one larger pane. As such, including them in your window design is an aesthetic choice.
Grids or grills are not outdated. In fact, they are essential for certain types of architecture and add design interest to homes. Window grids are hallmarks in traditional, colonial, farmhouse and craftsman design
With the latest developments, the grids are sandwiched between the panes of our multi-paned windows. This keeps the grids dust free, making window cleaning considerably quicker and faster. Along with the style and visual appeal, the gridded windows also help lower your home's temperature, keeping it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
Windows with grids offer the same energy efficient properties as our windows without grids. Both are filled with energy efficient argon gas. They are both covered with 4 layers of Low-E protective coating. Our customers who switch to new windows can see a reduction in their energy costs by up to 40%.Â
Colonial window grids are the most popular grid style, and are great for most homes. Typically seen on colonial, Cape Cod, and some farmhouse-style homes, colonial grids are most frequently requested on popular double-hung windows. A window with a colonial grid is assembled with a glass pane that is divided into smaller squares.
We hope you’ve learned a ton of information about Grids in Windows. They are a unique option for homeowners with specific style needs. Welcome to this Wednesday article. Today we are going to cover what you need to do to get ready for your new home windows replacement. So you’ve ordered the windows and you’ve waited for them to get installed. Now your installation is just around the corner. Keep reading to learn more about window installation and what you need to get ready before you get your new windows . . .Â
The most important thing that you as a homeowner must do before you get window replacement is to take down the blinds or any window covers like drapes. This is essential to window replacement because it gives the installers clear areas to work when they take out the windows. All homeowners should complete this task the day before window installation is set. Â
Installers will repeatedly walk in and out of your home and move room to room. You don’t need to clear everything out, just make sure they have easy access by clearing the way. You especially want to move anything fragile near the windows like plants so they don’t get harmed during the window installation process.Â
Dust covers are a great way to keep your furniture and floors free from debris when the windows are installed. Here at Conservation Construction we put down some covers for you so that your home remains dust and debris free. If, however, you’d like more protection, you can place down additional covers to protect your valuables. There’s nothing wrong with multiple layers of protection!
Pictures are possibly the most vulnerable object in the home when it comes to Window Replacement. If you have expensive artwork or pictures near the windows it is best to take them down before installation. This way they don’t get knocked off the wall with the vibrations that can be caused with hammering, and other tools.Â
Unlike other companies out there, Conservation Construction installers take the time to clean up after themselves. We clean up debris, dirt, and dust, leaving your home looking the same way it did when we first arrived. We even vacuum around the windows and floor. You truly can’t find a company more dedicated to every aspect of your window installation than Conservation Construction.Â
To make the most of your upgrade, explore Halloween Window Decorations and What Is House Wrap for both creative ideas and added protection insights.Â

We’re so happy to have you as we explore another intriguing question. Can new windows protect your home from harmful UV rays? It’s a good question to ask before you get new windows installed. It’s an especially good question to ask as we wave goodbye to spring and welcome in summer. As the heat soars outside you want a window that not only protects your home from the heat, but can insulate from the inside to keep your energy costs down.Â
Old windows can be a drag on your home’s overall energy efficiency. It’s always a good time to consider getting new energy efficient windows so save money both in the summer and winter months.Â
It’s amazing to think that new windows can protect you from the harmful UV rays, but it’s true, they do! New windows do this easily with little effort. They have built in coatings that prevent the harmful UV rays from entering your home.Â
Truth be told, all new windows have protection, but the level of protection they have differs between manufacturers. Being at a higher elevation the sun tends to beat down pretty hard on Colorado homes. It’s good to have the best protective windows out on the market today. At Conservation Construction we use the highest quality glass and coatings to ensure top notch energy efficiency. Our coating isn’t just the standard Low-E coatings which other companies use. We go above and beyond using a higher grade Low-E Glass coating which protects and insulates better.Â
Built In Sunblock
You can think of your new home windows as having a built in sunblock like you would use on yourself at the pool. Instead of your skin, this special coating protects the inside of your house from the harmful UV rays that it’s exposed to everyday. With this specialty Low-E Glass coating you’ll get phenomenal protection against the sun. Say goodbye to bleached furniture and flooring, because this coating prevents this occurrence from ever happening in your house again. Â
High Visibility
In addition, this coating lets in all the sun, gives you high visibility, all while keeping the heat out. Our Low-E glass includes layers within its protective coating to bounce UV rays back outside. The result is a clear coating which blocks even more solar gain, reflects heat, and lets even more light inside. This glass outperforms even tinted glass in most settings. You won’t have to compromise the views in your home for better energy efficiency like you used to. Whether the shades are open or closed in your home, you’ll get amazing energy efficiency. All Conservation Construction Windows have this coating. This means you’ll get more stable room temperatures all year round.Â

To all the readers who have taken time out of their day to read this, thank you! We appreciate our frequent readers. Today’s article covers some frequently asked questions about Vinyl Windows. Ever wonder about what type of window you’re getting placed in your home? Most likely it’s vinyl! We’ve got answers to your frequently asked questions so you can take the confusion out of shopping for your new windows!Â
In conclusion remember that Vinyl Windows are, strong, durable, colored through, and energy efficient. They are the best option for replacement windows on the market today. They are better at keeping your home a more stable temperature. Finally, Vinyl windows don’t retract and contract with the sun and they hold their insulating gas much better than old windows of the past. Comment below. Get your free quote today.Â
Most individuals don’t know about the pocket of gas that is placed between modern windows. This is what insulated glass is all about. It’s not just the Low-E Coatings that make the window energy efficient, it’s other factors like this gas which creates an invisible shield of protection. What type of gas is it and how does it protect your home from solar heat gain? In this article we will discuss the properties of high quality window gases. Keep reading to learn more.Â
Gas is used as a pocket of insulation between window panes because it is denser than air. Think of this gas as adding a cushion of protection between your windows. Adding it between the panes instead of air alone improves the windows thermal insulation efficiency. Gases can bring the temperature of the window down to rival room temperatures. This is one of the reasons new windows can give you more inside stable room temperatures all year long. This specialized gas is sealed inside the window and can also prevent air infiltration from the outside into your home. It’s very important for an energy efficient window today to have gas between the glass.Â
This gas is most commonly used in windows because it is great in any temperature or climate. This means whether you live in a rainy place, high altitude, humidity, or anything else, it’ll work just the same no matter the conditions outside. Argon gas is used in both residential and commercial windows. Argon gas’ density gives it unique properties to insulate better for longer periods of times--we’re talking year and years here.Â
As far as I know Conservation Construction is the only company on the market today that uses both Krypton and Argon gases between the window panes. Krypton is even denser than argon gas so it can improve the R-value of a window even more.Â
Argon MixtureÂ
This unique formulation of Argon gasses gives you even more density than air gas alone, and is the superior choice for home window replacement. This is why it is the optimal choice for Conservation Construction and our Windows. This odorless colorless gas combination gives you a window that is unparalleled for energy efficiency on the market today. Argon gases don’t expand or contract so the gas should stay put where it’s placed for life.Â
Conservation Construction uses a specialty kind of seal for our windows which lasts a lifetime and doesn’t drip down or melt like other companies do. This seal is tight and prevents air from slipping out easily. The gas in our windows has been known to last decades.Â
Windows which are more than 15-20 years old have probably lost all their gas and insulating properties. If a seal is broken all the energy saving gas can leak out easily and leave you with condensation stuck between the glass. If you have this problem, it’s best to consider getting windows sooner rather than later because they could be costing you big in energy costs.Â
It’s always better to have a window that is filled with gas rather than a window that is filled with air. A window that is filled with both gas like the window is even more preferred to windows with just argon gas. If your windows are more than 20 years old they are costing you a lot of money on energy efficiency and should be switched out as soon as you can. Thank you for reading this article. Please comment below and get your free quote for new window replacement on our website here.

You may think that cleaning your window is pretty straight forward, but that’s not the case. Sure, cleaning the glass is a great idea. It cleans dirt, dust and other debris from the window and gives you clear views. What people don’t always focus on is everything else. Those cracks and corners in the window can be a real hassle to clean. In today’s article we’re giving you some quick tips on how to clean the nooks and crannies of a window. This way you window will function properly and you’ll have a spick and span window to look at for the whole summer.Â
A lot of people don’t know this but pro cleaners often use Q-tips to clean out the corners of the windows. They have the small cotton head which is needed where we can’t reach. Even our fingers are too big to reach into this insanely small crack. When all else fails remember that Q-tips are great for cleaning out those hard to reach places in a window frame. They are also great to run alongside the frame as they can pick up tons of dust left in the cracks.Â
You can also use sponges to run along the frame as they can pick up dust and debris like nothing else can, but are gentle enough not to scratch the frame or anything else. Sponges just require a little bit of soap and water, that way you don’t get a chemical smell in your house. I don’t know about you but that’s always a plus for me in our home. Too many chemicals in a small space can really make your head spin. The great thing about sponges too is that you can even use them to wipe down the glass from the window as well!Â
Professional window cleaners use squeegees all the time to clean large commercial buildings. The cool thing about this product is that it is very inexpensive to buy and it can also make your windows look brilliant. You can either spray on some Windex, or even just use a soapy water mixture as mentioned above and once you squeegee it’ll be like a real professional cleaned the windows. They’ll be so clear you may have to watch where you walk to not accidentally hit one.Â
Window screens really take a beating. They're constantly exposed to the sun, wind, rain and snow, and pollen and insects, not to mention all the dust that comes at them from inside the house. That's why it's so important to clean window screens as part of your spring maintenance routine. If you get windows like the ones from Conservation Construction you can even just pop them out easily and rinse them off in the sink! We make it completely easy to clean your screens.Â
For your next exterior upgrade, read our blogs, Doing Window Replacement The Right Way and Storm Doors Are Perfect For Spring, to learn how proper installation and seasonal additions improve performance and protection.Â
Spring is here and it’s time for spring cleaning. What better place to start than cleaning your windows. They are easy to clean, and can make your house feel brighter and bigger. Clean windows can even help your frames to function better. We hope you’ve enjoyed these tips like; Q-tips, sponges, soapy water, squeegees, and cleaning the frames. Comment below on what technique you use to clean your windows. Thanks for reading and we will see you next time.Â
Have you ever heard of window frames having foam in them before? Why in the world do our Windows have foam filled frames? That’s what we’ll be talking about in today’s article. Keep reading to learn more about our special windows and what the foam does to make them so extraordinary . . .Â
In the past old aluminum frames would expand and contract with the sun. Some people still have these ancient windows to this day. They didn’t hold the glass in place very long because of their capacity to hold extreme heat. Nowadays new frames are made from vinyl which stays at a stable temperature. This helps hold the glass in place, keeps the insulating gases between the panes, and prevents outside air infiltration. At Conservation Construction we’ve even designed a specialty vinyl window that not only lasts a lifetime, but keeps your home at a stable temperature for that time too.Â
One of the key and most important factors to our windows bringing down your energy loss is their foam filled sides. Foam is injected into the window frame on both sides of the window to ensure that the frames insulate better. This means if the hot or cold comes along it’ll stay outside blocked by the foam in the window frames. Additionally, with our new Windows in place, you won’t be able to feel the cold coming in from the outside as much as you would with your old windows. This blocks the most amount of air possible. It combines with the specialty Krypton/Argon gases we stick between the window panes to truly create a reduction in energy costs.Â
Another great thing about our phenomenal frames is that because they are filled with foam and construction for durability, things like water don’t affect the window. Our frames have custom bottom drains. This means if any water (even the tiniest amount) were to ever get behind the frame it would just roll down to the bottom of the window and out the bottom drain. The custom bottom drains we’ve designed are exclusive to Conservation Construction. No other company on the market has drains like this that protect from water damage. This means that older window frames, or windows you get from other companies, can allow the water to just sit in the frame and cause larger problems down the line such as mold or rotting.Â
So protection against air infiltration, better energy efficiency, and staving off water damage. If our windows can do all this and still be affordable what are you waiting for? Get your free quote for a new set of windows from Conservation Construction. Once you start seeing and feeling the difference you will wonder why you ever waited so long to get new windows in the first place. Comment below on what your favorite part of this article was. Energy loss is overlooked in a home because it’s not clear just how much money you’re losing when it comes to energy. If people knew just how energy/money was being leaked to the outside they might put a higher priority into energy saving. So, how much can new windows, siding and doors save you? Keep reading to learn more.Â
The average American loses 35% of their total energy just through leaks in walls alone. If you add in the lost energy from windows and doors that’s an additional 15-17% more. Think about it, that is 50% of your energy costs or more that are just being seeped outside without your knowledge. Ever wonder why the furnace or AC won’t turn off? It’s probably because your home is not as energy efficient as it could be. Think about if it were how much you’d save in just one month if you switched to energy efficient siding.
New siding can reduce heating and cooling costs all year round because of its insulating properties. This means whether it be Fiber Cement Siding, Cedar Ridge Siding or Vinyl Siding, you’ll get statistically significant savings all year round! Hooray for your wallet! I had a co-worker last year who alone was spending 450$ a month to cool her house. If she got energy star rated efficient windows or siding she could reduce her bill by half. That money would go back into her home and the money would go back into her pocket.
Siding replacement is always a good idea for another reason too, and that’s protection. Not only does new siding insulate, it protects better from storms that may come your way. The base Vinyl siding can withstand winds of up to 110 mph, and Cedar Ridge Siding can withstand winds of up to 160 mph. That’s very good news for your home. You won’t worry when the next storm comes in, because you’ve got the right siding out there to protect you.Â
Another huge drain of your finances and time is repainting old siding. Old siding fades and needs to get repainted, but new siding does not. Newer sidings such as Fiber Cement and Cedar Ridge have new color technologies which ensure the longevity of color. That’s right, new siding will never have to be painted again! It’s okay to cheer at this part after you learn you’ll save money from this expensive forever!Â
If you see cracked or warped panels on your current siding this could be hiding an underlying issue. Water damage is not always easily seen, but it can damage more than just the siding alone. If water has gotten through the cracks and into the foundation, this could spell major problems down the line. Forget air leaks and heat loss, if water has damaged the foundation it could cost you thousands upon thousands of dollars to fix. We recommend you get replacement siding before this happens.
Finally, siding adds back 75% of the value in equity you put into the project initially. When selling, you’ll have better curb appeal, and you can ask for a higher price from potential buyers. Both of these things ensure a great future for you!Â
In conclusion, we’ll recap. 35% of the total energy you use goes right out with the breeze if you don’t have energy efficient products. You can potentially save up to half of your total energy bill if you switch out all 3 things which are; windows, siding and doors. Finally, new siding gives back 75% in equity what it costs, it adds curb appeal, never has to be painted again, saves energy, protects better and insulates more. New siding gives you huge savings down the line. You can get at free quote for new windows, siding or doors.Â

Comment below on what you think the most interesting thing you learned in this article was. We can’t wait to have you as a reader next time.Â
You may think those old aluminum windows you have still function, so what’s the point of getting new ones? Sure they are made of metal frames, but why spend the money to get new windows? Those old windows could be costing you a lot more than you know in energy costs than you might want to admit.Â
Today’s article I’ll be discussing my experience with old aluminum windows. Albeit my old windows wouldn’t even open. They were original to the house which was built in the 1980’s. Practically every window in the house was cracked, holy, or non functional. I could literally not even get the windows open without my husband's help because they required so much force. The blinds would blow in when breezes came by because of the gaping holes in the frames. Not to mention the fact that those holes allowed a lot of spiders inside the home.Â
Now, I’m just as frugal as one can be. I try not to spend extra money on anything in my house or other areas in my life, but these windows were causing me a lot of anxiety. I was embarrassed to have guests over because the views were so obstructed. On top of the cracks in the glass, my windows had huge condensation problems. After only a few short months I was more than fed up the windows. When I started working for a company that replaced windows, I thought, here’s my chance to get new windows. Long story short, I got my pricing, got the windows measured, and had them installed within a month.Â
A lot of people I know are frugal as well. When we hosted guests for the first time after we got the new windows my friend’s son said, “If anybody needed new windows it was you guys. I’m glad you replaced them.” He was ten when he told me this. If he noticed them, everybody else was noticing them too.Â
What a difference the windows made, truly. My windows were made of aluminum. This was standard practice back in the day, but there are several reasons to switch to a new vinyl window now. The main reason aluminum windows are holding you back is because they are not energy efficient. Old aluminum windows contract and expand with the sun’s heat. This is what often leads to those seal problems you see in the windows. They’d either break away from the glass when they are hot or melt the sealant between the glass causing goop to run down the windows. This leads to that condensation problem as well. Old aluminum windows leak out energy and could be costing you 25% more in energy costs year round.Â
Secondly, aluminum frame windows absorb the sun’s heat and are hot to the touch. This can increase the inside temperature of your home, and who wants that? There would be times I would try to open the windows and they would burn my fingertips. You know that can’t be energy efficient. New vinyl frames are foam filled to insulate better, and they stay at a stable temperature all year round. They don’t expand or contract with the sun.Â
Finally, old aluminum glass doesn’t have the energy efficient properties of today’s vinyl windows. New glass in our Windows is made to reflect the sun’s heat back outward, blocking the UV rays from entering your home or even damaging the glass. In fact, our LoE-366 Glass Coating keeps your home a more stable room temperature all year round, and prevents furniture and rugs from becoming bleached from the sun.Â
For a full side by side comparison of materials, be sure to read our blog, Vinyl vs Aluminum Windows, to see how the two options stack up in performance, durability, and efficiency.
In conclusion, don’t be stuck in a time warp so that when guests enter your house they feel like they were whisked back to another decade. New energy efficient products like the Conservation 5 Series window can save you a ton of money on energy costs and are a whole lot more functional than old aluminum windows. Our quotes are free and you can get windows installed fast and easy. Ask yourself if your windows still function or are they functional? Because there is a big difference.Â

If it’s time for you to start looking for window replacement you’re reading the right article. Today we’re going over common tips that will help you when getting window replacement.Â
How Energy Efficient Are The Windows?
Old windows really drag down a home’s energy efficiency. It’s said that 25% of your overall energy bill can go to air escaping out of old windows. That’s why it’s super important to ensure that the new windows you get can cut that energy spending down. In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Energy new windows can save you on average between $126-$465 a year. That’s huge savings all year round when you think about it. At Conservation Construction, our windows have been known to save the average homeowner up to 40% off their energy costs. It’s not just one thing that makes our windows so energy efficient it’s all of their specialty features working together that save you so much money. This includes;
What all of these features mean for you is a window that truly gives you lower energy costs and year round comfort in your own home. With more stable temperatures, your AC will come on less in the summer and your furnace will kick on less in the winter. How cool is that?Â
Another huge tip when looking for windows is to look at the warranty. At Conservation Construction we include a Lifetime Limited Warranty with all of our products. Other companies throw around the word “lifetime” and only mean 10 years. Our warranties truly do last and last. If you want new windows with a warranty that can’t be beat you might want to consider going with Conservation Construction Windows.Â

Some people like the grid look and some do not, but one thing is for sure when we live in the state of Colorado you should always check with your HOA, if you have one, to make sure they don’t have some sort of regulation. I know mine did when I got my windows replaced.Â
I’m one of those people who don’t like the grid look, but I moved into a community that makes all the houses have grids. Yep, grids were just part of the requirement when I got my windows placed a couple years back. This is just one example of why it’s good to check with your HOA before you get anything done to your house to make sure you’re not violating any regulations. I know HOA’s are kind of a hassle from first hand experience, and I’m sure some other Colorado homeowners know this too.Â
Secondly, if you really don’t like the grid pattern look, you don’t have to have it. If you have old windows with a grid and would like to change them out for a more sleek plain glass design, you can choose that. As long as we have the measurements for your home, Conservation Construction can build you a window that has no grid at all. We have double hung windows, bay windows, pictures windows, and more. We want your window to be perfect right to left top to bottom.Â
Let’s say you like the grids. That works out well too because we can match any existing pattern you have in your window already. Our estimators are excellent at getting you just what you are looking for.Â
Our windows are not just more functional than your old windows they are extremely energy efficient too. Conservation windows have been known to save the average homeowner up to 40% off their total energy costs. That’s because of all the exclusive features we put into the windows like our Low-E Glass Coating which gives you high visibility and thermal control. You get to keep the blinds open without losing any energy efficiency. Our Conservation Windows also include a specialty Easy Clean coating. This uses the power of the sun to decompose organic matter from the glass. This means you’ll get gorgeous clear views for the life of the windows.Â
Our panes of glass are sealed and filled with two types of gas Argon. This gas is a better insulator than air alone, and it provides you even more energy efficiency for your window.Â
Replacing windows is a skill that requires years of practice. We have the installers with the experience to get your windows installed the right way the first time. We also provide lifetime warranties to ensure that your window will truly stand the test of time.Â
To finish things up, remember that you can always choose between grids or no grids. At Conservation Construction you truly get the window of your dreams without the hassle. With A Conservation Window you’ll get better insulation, lower energy bills, and clearer views. Call us today or go online here for your free estimate. 5 Insane But True Facts About Windows
There Were Once Window Taxes.
In 1969 England, there were window taxes imposed. These taxes were introduced during the reign of William III, and it was based on the number of windows in a building. Houses with fewer than ten windows were initially exempt, with owners of houses with more windows forced to pay additional taxes for each additional window. Naturally, it was easy to collect this tax, as the number of windows could be seen clearly even from the street. However, after people started boarding up their windows, and after increasing reports of illnesses from poor ventilation and insufficient light, the Window Tax was repealed in 1851.
Gas Between The Windows
Double glazing, the concept of trapping air between two sheets of glass to act as insulation, was invented in 1930, but it wasn’t until 1941 that the idea was put into practice. This was primarily due to the high cost of production. However, there is significant evidence that there was double glazing in use in Scotland in the 19th Century. At Conservation Construction we use a unique two formula gas mixture of Krypton and Argon to ensure optimal energy efficiency.
Windows Can Save Up To 40% On Energy Costs
Windows are essential for heat insulation in the home. Approximately 25% of the heat loss in your home is through the windows. With a Conservation window from Conservation Construction you can save up to 40% off your home energy costs. Our windows are great at insulating and keeping your home a more stable temperature all year long. Glass Can Be Recycled Infinitely
The long-lasting nature of glass also means that glass can be recycled forever. It never wears out as a raw material, so old bottles, jars, and even windows can be remanufactured into new glass objects over and over and over again.
Residents Use Windows For Safety
In the small town of St. Mary’s in Newfoundland Canada residents must use N95 masks and close their windows during the hot summer months due to a rancid fish smell that permeates the air once a year. That's because a factory that closed down years ago left behind vats of seafood sauce that rotted to the point of being potentially toxic. The smell that emanates from the abandoned factory is so bad that locals sometimes have to stay inside for weeks.
Lifetime Warranties
It’s insane but true, at Conservation Construction we offer Lifetime Limited Warranties to ensure your windows truly last a lifetime. We are like no other company on the market in this respect-- we should say that our warranties outlast our competitors.
Final Thoughts
We hope you have all enjoyed all of the insane but true facts about windows. We can’t wait to hear from you on what your favorite part of the article was. Get your free quote for new home windows today and start saving money on your energy costs.
Have you been struggling getting your windows to open and shut during these past summer months? Is it a chore to get a breeze going through your living room because the windows will not function properly? From personal experience I can relate to you more than you know. For about an entire year after I moved into my home I struggled with my windows. Some I could barely open, others wouldn’t open at all. The frames were locked in place and were not budging.
Most of the time old windows are locked in place because of stagnant parts that don’t allow the window to move. At least that was the case with my old windows. I felt like I could almost strain a muscle with how much I had to pull and push them to try and get them to move. Now, I don’t struggle at all because I have our Company’s Windows. Let me tell you, I didn’t think it would change my life to get new windows but it totally has. The windows open with complete ease now, and that’s something I never had with my ancient windows - which were original 1984 aluminum framed windows. I can open the and shut the windows so easily. It’s like they slide on air.
Dual Brass Rollers
How does the Conservation Window accomplish such easy operation? The first reason is the dual brass rollers. These rollers distribute the weight evenly over the operating sashes to give you ultimate smooth operation. This results in less wear on the rollers themselves making your windows easy to slide for life. From personal experience I can now open all the windows in my house with little effort - I’m not straining my muscles any longer, and that’s something I am very fond of.
Easy Slide Track
In addition, our windows incorporate an exclusively designed slider track. Some windows styles have buttons on either side of the sash to allow for it to be tilted easily. This makes cleaning a breeze as you need no tools to release the sash from the track. It’s so easy, I’ve removed my sashes to clean them and placed them back with little effort several times.
Reduce Energy Loss
These high-performance rollers and track give a tighter seal as well to reduce energy loss and air infiltration. This means the overall thermal performance of your windows will drastically increase. In fact, most people who go with Windows from Conservation Construction can see up to a 40% decrease in their energy bills. Your house will have more stable room temperatures all year long. This means you won’t feel the cold coming in through the windows during the winter or heat during the summer.

Finally the frames are filled with specialized gases to ensure better insulation.Â

Have you noticed some wasps in the area? They may be closer than you think. Wasps love to make their nests near windows and siding. They especially love the areas of shelter underneath soffit and fascia on a house. Wasps nests are easy to spot not just because of the wasps in the area, but also because of their ugly brownish looking nests. See picture below.
It is such a nuisance to have to deal with wasp nests. I’ve had to deal with more than my fair share throughout my life, and they are not as easy to get rid of as one might think. In today’s article we’ll give you some solutions on ways to get rid of wasp’s nests easily.
Insecticidal Spray
This is probably the easiest solution. Stand far back and use the spray to coat the outside of the wasp’s nests. Wasp spray is an insecticide that combines several main wasp neutralizing chemicals called pyrethroids. Wasp spray releases these chemicals in a powerful blast that knocks down wasps from out of the air. After you’ve sprayed you can gently remove the nest without fear of getting stung. This spray can be bad for you to breathe in, so use caution when spraying.
Garbage Bag Method
If you’d rather not spray you can always wait until the wasps are a little more tired. You can approach the nest at night when the workers and queen are present to assure you have all the wasps gathered together. Slowly cover the nest with a garbage bag. Then you can detach the nest carefully from the wall placing it in the garbage bag. Once you seal the bag, the wasps are trapped inside the bag and you can dispose of it properly. This solution is easy without fear of spraying toxic chemicals everywhere.
Power Wash The Nest Away
This one is a bit more risky but is great for those nests that are out of reach. You can always use a power washer to dislodge the nest from its spot. Water will prevent the wasps from flying and once the nest is on the ground you can dispose of it properly. You can also use pressure washing to clear off your siding while you’re out there cleaning the nest away.
Natural Remedies
There is one really cool natural remedy to deter wasps and that is peppermint oil. If you’ve noticed you’ve had to clean off wasp nests several times from your siding or windows you can place a little diluted peppermint oil in the frequented areas and this will deter wasps from nesting. The cool thing about it is that it also deters other nasty bugs as well - and it’s not harmful to you or the creatures.
Stay Vigilant
Just because you’ve removed a nest doesn’t mean another one can’t form in the same spot. You’ll want to check back on the area where the nest was to ensure they haven’t started yet another colony. If they have, it’s best to do the same steps again before the nest gets any bigger.

Final thoughts
Remember, you can use a multitude of methods to get rid of wasps. Use insecticidal spray, take down the nest at night, or pressure wash the nest away. Use peppermint oil to deter the wasps from placing other nests again. If you’ve successfully removed a nest from your siding or window, and realized through this process that you are in need of new siding or windows, please give us a call. Conservation Construction would be happy to give you a free quote on new siding or windows. Thank you for reading today’s article. On behalf of Conservation Construction we’d like to thank you all for checking out today’s article. There are a lot of misconceptions about window replacement out there, but in our blog we aim to make things clear. Today’s subject; can windows crack from the cold or heat? You’ll get answers to this and so much more. So, let’s get started.
Truth be told old windows can crack. If you have old, damaged or low-quality windows, the integrity of the glass may be compromised. When a temperature change occurs, if the edges of the windows are damaged or the windows are of poor quality, the window may crack. The crack will usually begin at the edge of the window and spread inward. When this happens, if the seal of the glass wasn’t broken already, the seal will be compromised. On double or triple pane glass the seal itself holds vital gas between the window panes to ensure energy efficiency and to prevent air infiltration into the home. Once the seal is broken the glass will no longer be as effective at preventing cold, heat or wind from coming right into your home. If multiple windows are like this, the energy efficiency in your home goes way down. This is not good news for any season because either your furnace or AC unit will be running nonstop.
New windows give you strength and versatility. You won’t get thermal stress cracks or any stress cracks in Conservation Construction windows today from temperature changes. That’s because our windows are made with thermal protection and the frames are made from Vinyl which prevents warping, popping, contraction and expansion. Conservation Windows have specialty coatings to protect the glass from extreme hot and cold temperatures. Here at Conservation Construction we use a specialty coating called Low-E Glass coating. This coating prevents harmful UV rays from entering your home. It has been specially formulated to reject the sun’s heat without affecting the view. This keeps your windows and your home protected. Our window frames are insulated as well to prevent cold air from entering the house in the winter. The specialty Argon gas mixture in our double pane glass means your house will have warmer room temperatures during the colder months. Colorado homeowners can rest assured that whether it’s cold or hot outside, their house will be protected.
Another huge benefit in getting windows from Conservation Construction is our lifetime warranty. This warranty means your windows will be protected for years to come with little to no maintenance required. Our free quotes, which are good for a year, allow you to get windows without the hassle. And our 0% interest financing gives you the option to get more windows now (WAC).

Do new windows come with screens included? Let’s screen out the mystery behind this question in today’s article.
This may seem like a small question, but it is more critical to ask this question than one might think. New windows will be in your home for a very long time, and it’s these small details that make all the difference in the longevity of the windows. You’d think, “Sure, all window companies include screens with their windows,” but this isn’t always the case.
Window screens are important. They are important to maintain airflow while preventing insects from getting into the home. They also limit the amount of dust, dirt and other particles that might fly onto the windows from getting inside. Window screens have also been shown to reduce heat transfer. Furthermore, when screens work properly, they help deflect rainwater as well.
As a rule of thumb, you should always ask if your windows come with screens. At Conservation Construction screens come standard with all of our operational windows.
C Window Screens are not just average screens - they are extraordinary screens . . .
What makes them so unique? Conservation Construction’s Window Screens come with a new ultra-fiber technology which is less visible to the human eye than standard screen material. The screen material is so fine that it almost seems to disappear into the background. This fiber size makes for an even tighter weave. These smaller openings throughout the screen allow for more natural brightness to penetrate the home. An added perk to Conservation Construction’s Window Screens is that it’s hard for any bugs to get through them. So, let in all the breezes without all the bugs.
Conservation Construction's screens are made specifically for each window and fit perfectly within their frames. This supreme custom fit provides ultimate protection because there are no gaps between our frame and window. This also gives the frames better structural integrity when winds come blowing.
Conservation Construction's Screens are easy to access and remove. If you need to clean them you can simply lift them out of the window, clean them, and put them back with little effort. It’s these small details that make for ease of use. With little to no maintenance required, Conservation Construction's windows are a great option for homeowners who want to maintain cleanliness with the least amount of effort.Â
How could Screens get any better? They are protecting the best windows on the market today. Every detail of our Windows, down to the corners of the frame, was engineered for longevity and energy efficiency. All our windows include standard:

What makes Conservation Vinyl Window Frames different than all other frames in today’s market? It’s the details that matter, and in today’s article we’ll be teaching you all about our vinyl frames and what makes them so unique. So, let’s get to it . . .Â
Our Vinyl Frames were engineered for longevity, energy efficiency, and practicality. These frames are the perfect fit for our energy efficient glass because together they create a complete moisture management/ air infiltration prevention system. How do we manage this? Are frames are measured twice, once upon the initial quote, and again by your installer. What this does is ensure the windows are the perfect fit. We make the custom windows to order in our warehouse in Loveland Colorado.Â
They are then picked up by your installer on installation day. Once at your house, the installers cut down the outside of the frame to fit into your windows perfectly. What this does is create the tightest seal possible to prevent air infiltration and give you optimal energy efficiency. Other companies on the market have tiny pieces they place into the window after installation that don’t stay in place easily and allow more outside air inside.Â
Our windows are superior in other ways too like our custom Foam Filled Frames. That’s right, the sides of all our window frames are filled with a specialized foam. This foam is used to create even better insulation to the window overall. The foam helps prevent absorption of heat and cold into your house too.Â
Each and every window we sell also comes with custom drains that sit on the bottom of the frames. These drains ensure that any water that may come your way be it sleet, rain, or snow drains out from the window itself. It also sheets away from your house in the process. Your frames will no longer get damage from water sitting on the frames. This kind of damage is just a thing of the past.Â
Finally, unlike old aluminum frames your new Vinyl Frames won’t conduct heat and cold. They stay at a stable temperature all year round giving you top notch energy efficiency in all four seasons. This means you’ll lower your energy costs and stay more comfortable in your home all at once.Â
So choose Conservation Construction Windows because our frames were engineered to stand the test of time and remain energy efficient in the process. You just can’t get this kind of durability and customization from any other company on the market. Check out our website here for your free quote. Comment below on what you found interesting about our vinyl frames. We can’t wait to hear from you and have you as a reader next time.

Why are Windows so energy efficient? It’s not just that we provide;Â
It is also because our installation process is unmatched in the business. Our installers have decades of experience installing windows. This time has given them the practice and skills to hone the craft.Â
Windows are different here for a completely different reason too. Your installer comes to measure the window to perfection. Finally, your installer picks up the windows and literally cuts vinyl down to fit into the window perfectly. What this does is ensure the highest amount of insulation and least amount of air infiltration. This is what also gives our windows one of the highest U-factors on the market today.Â
Additionally, our window installers are hard working, nice individuals who care about getting the job done right the first time. We pride ourselves on only keeping those on staff who are respectful and treat our clients with the utmost care. It’s really what sets our replacement windows above the rest. Listen, when you live in Colorado you start to get used to the fact that the weather changes every five minutes. That’s the reality of living in a state which could be rainy, snowy, and sunny all in one day. Winter weather is especially harsh in Colorado. With this kind of weather it is only normal to ask if your windows can crack under these conditions. Can Home Windows Crack From Cold Weather?
Unlike humans, windows don’t “Crack Under The Pressure.” Even old windows simply just get old. Windows crack due to window seal breakage. Windows were made with metal. Since metal conducts heat so well, it will expand and contract when the sun hits it. This causes seals on the glass to become melted which can lead to wonky windows.Â
In addition, cracks due to age can indicate that you need replacement windows. Broken windows now doesn’t mean you’ll have broken windows in your home in the future.Â
New windows give you strength and versatility. You won’t get thermal stress cracks or any stress cracks in windows today. That’s because the new glass windows are made with thermal protection and the frames are made from Vinyl to prevent warping. Here at Conservation Construction we use Low-E Glass Coating for ultimate protection against UV rays. You don’t have to choose between shaded glass and high functioning glass. This coating ensures our windows have thermal control and clear views. Can Home Windows Crack From Cold Weather?
Finally with vinyl frames you get longevity, durability and energy efficiency. New Conservation windows have foam filled sides and custom bottom drains. This ensures the highest possible resistance to air infiltration. During rain storms the bottom drains allow for the water to sheet off and away from the house so you don’t ever get warped window frames again.Â
My windows used to be an eyesore. Before I got my news windows from Conservation Construction my glass was a pitiful mess. Cracked glass interfered with my own views. New windows gave me clear views and functionality.Â
Finally, with Conservation Windows you get lifetime warranties (this includes my windows). That’s the kind of window I want, don’t you?
So do yourself and your house a favor and get new energy efficient windows from Conservation Construction. You’ll get Clear views, amazing windows with durability, and functionality for life. Happy Monday to all reading this article. As we ramp up for an entire new week we thought we'd give you an article to distract yourself from the Monday blues.Â
In today’s article we’re talking about the differences in Window Replacement VS Window Repair. The average person might not think that there is a huge difference between the two. After working in the window replacement business for the past two years let me tell you there is a huge difference. So, let’s jump into today’s article and learn all about it.
So why is it that the typical person needs a Replacement Window/Repair Window? It’s usually because their window isn’t functioning properly. Either they have condensation stuck between the glass, they have cracked glass, the window doesn’t open properly, or the locks don’t work. In the situation in my own house all of the above were happening at once. If you have any one of these problems it’s a tell-tale it’s time to replace.Â
So what’s the deal with repair or replacement? There are clear distinctive differences. Repair companies typically just put new panes of glass inside the windows. Repair companies can fix non-sliding window frame problems too. These repairs can make the original windows look almost brand new, but here’s where the issues come in . . . they are not brand new windows at all. The problems that were there before are still problems, but just masked over problems.Â
If repair companies replace the glass with insulated glass coatings and reseal the window, that doesn't give you optimal energy efficiency because they are not filling the windows with specialty gases. These gases give optimal insulation and energy efficiency, without them your old windows won’t insulate as well as Replacement Windows. On top of this, re-caulking and weather stripping the windows looks nice, but it’s not guaranteed to keep the seal for very long.Â
The final difference in just repairing or replacing is a doozy. This is a definite Pay Attention moment for the article before simply repairing your windows. Old frames that were used throughout the 50’s-80’s and even into the early 90’s used Aluminum or Metal frames.
This is a huge red flag in the repair world. You don’t want to simply repair old metal frames because metal frames will effectively just make the problems with your old windows come back. Let me state that again. Metal frames will just make you have the same problems you’ve had before like condensation, cracking glass, and overall wonky windows. Why is this? It’s simple . . . Metal conducts heat. When the sun shines into your windows, the metal is contracting and expanding with the heat. This causes window seals and glass to become shifted and loose within those frames. It wouldn’t be very long before these problems started to arise once again.Â
Our advice is to spend even a little bit more on Window Replacement. There is a reason Conservation Construction utilizes Vinyl window frames and double paned windows with energy efficient glass. Unlike metal or rotting wood, the frames hold up to extreme temperatures and weather. Heck, we even back all of our windows by Lifetime Warranties to ensure longevity, ease of operation, and lower energy bills.Â
Our Vinyl windows have;
It’s all of these things working together that give you a window that is able to withstand drastic fast temperature changes and every day wear and tear with ease. Ease of operation is something all homeowners should enjoy in their own home. You shouldn’t have to struggle just to get your windows open, and you won’t have to with a Conservation Window.Â
The most extraordinary and second Pay Attention moment for this article is this. We cut the windows to fit when we install them at your house. You might have thought you read something wrong there, but you didn’t. Our expert installers come and measure each window individually. We then custom make your windows from scratch in our warehouse in Loveland Colorado. The frame is cut down on site during installation to fit snugly inside your home. This means you get the tightest seal possible for your windows with little to no air infiltration possible. The result is that over the life of the window you’ll get optimal energy efficiency and a more stable room temperature all year round. The average homeowner who chooses Conservation Construction has seen a typical savings of up to 40% off their energy bills.Â
So the differences in repairing your windows versus replacing them are huge. We hope you’ve learned a bit from today’s article. Remember the key facts, repairing doesn’t always fix the problem because the same issues may arise later on. Replacing windows give you longevity, ease of operation, efficiency and beauty. Who are your local Denver area window experts? That’s right, it’s us at Conservation Construction. We’ve been removing and replacing windows in the Denver Metro Area since 1989. Locally owned and operated, we focus on quality products and customized customer service. That way when you need to get your windows replaced you feel 100% comfortable with the replacement windows--from project start to finish.Â
Now, let’s get into the specifics of why our brand of windows, our Window, is phenomenal. It’s not just our dedication to customer service, it’s the fact that we pay attention to the little details of the window. We’ve engineered every part of the window--right down to the small bottom drain--to withstand the test of time. It’s also true that these windows were specifically designed for the bipolar Colorado climate which we all know can change at the drop of a hat. We paid attention to the climate so you get a window that ultimately withstand drastic fast temperature changes.Â
The specifics of our window include;
All of these listed items working together create strength and longevity for the window. The special gas mixture of Argon insulates better than air between the pains and has been proven to perform better than just using Argon gas alone. We also make all our windows to order right here in Colorado. The gas is filled here (unlike other companies who manufacture and fill their windows in other states then transport them to Colorado). Other companies can’t fill their windows to the brim with gas like ours is because they are transferring it from a different altitude. What manufacturing the windows here in Colorado means for you is a window that can be filled with more gas, and you’ll get a window which will insulates better.Â
The foam filled frame is a unique characteristic of Conservation Construction Window. We measure for the windows, then cut the frame down to size making an airtight seal. This is a totally unique patented way to install windows that only we offer. This allows for the tightest seal possible, and, on top of this, you’ll get foam filled sides to the frame so the window insulates even better. In the long run our customers have experienced an overall energy savings of up to 40% off their energy bills. That’s savings worth mentioning if you ask me.Â
The next two features work hand in hand so we’ll cover them together. Our windows come with Low-E Glass and Easy Clean Coating. The Low-E glass is standard in all windows today no matter where you shop as it’s a requirement for the Colorado climate--even new builds must have Low-E glass. But what makes our glass different is the overall UV protection. When the temperature soars, ordinary window glass just can’t handle the heat. And tinted glass spoils the view. Our Low-E, however, has been specially formulated to reject the sun’s heat without affecting the view. It lets more light in and keeps more heat out. So your home stays cool and comfortable. What’s more, Low-E provides exceptional fading protection as well. It blocks 95% of the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays (a leading cause of fading), so it will help your furniture, carpets, curtains and wall coverings stay beautiful for years to come.
Neat Glass coating comes into the picture next to keep those beautiful views. You’ll get shiny windows without even having to clean them. This coating sits on the window and works with those UV rays to decompose organic matter from the glass. So you’ll get a streak free shine of Windex without even having to Windex. Isn’t that exciting news?
All of the locks on our windows feature a two point locking system which sits atop the inside frame of the window. This ensures you’ll get protection and functionality. Finally our windows are easy to slide and operate, and they will stay this way for the life of the window. You’ll never struggle to open these windows. Trust me, I have these windows installed in my own home and they are an absolute dream to open and shut.Â
Our professionals have been installing windows for decades, and that’s just the kind of expertise you want when getting your windows installed. This way, the windows perform to the highest quality and last a lifetime.Â
A lot of companies say “Lifetime Warranties” but only mean 5-10 years. Our windows are warranties are truly lifetime warranties. If anything ever goes wrong with the window we’ve got you covered under the warranty, guaranteed.Â
For practical planning advice before starting your project, read our blog, Tips For Window Replacement, to make informed decisions about materials, installation, and budgeting.Â

We hope everybody enjoys this little article I’ve put together for you on this fine Friday. Today we’ll cover different windows in art throughout history. For those of you thinking this could be a long article, just remember that we’re doing a very brief overview and you’ll get to look at some pretty art like this . . .Â
For those of you unfamiliar with this piece it was painted by Leonardo da Vinci. He began painting what would be one of history's most influential works of art, The Last Supper, in 1495. The painting was made using experimental pigments directly on the dry plaster wall and unlike frescos, where the pigments are mixed with the wet plaster, it has not stood the test of time well. Even before it was finished there were problems with the paint flaking from the wall and Leonardo had to repair it. Over the years it has crumbled, been vandalized bombed and restored. Today we are probably looking at very little of the original.
There are some beautiful windows in the background that add lots of natural light to the picture. These look like picture windows. A picture window (which we sell here at Conservation Construction) is a large window in a house. Picture windows usually dominate the room or wall in which it is located, and are often designed or placed to present an attractive view. Picture windows offer clear unobstructed views, and I think we're seeing something similar in this painting.Â
Let's move on to just after the Italian Renaissance. Women started to become more influential artists of the time. This painting, done by Marie Denise Villers from France 1801, show the wide range with which women had begun painting. I chose to showcase this piece because of the haunting nature of the girls eyes, and the use of light throughout the painting. Not to mention that it has some amazing windows in the background too. The windows here look like casement windows. Casement windows use a crank to open and they are great for letting in big breezes and clear views.Â
Van Gogh painted his first Bedroom just after moving into his beloved “Yellow House”—the first place that truly felt like home—in Arles, France, in 1888. He was very pleased with the painting and delighted that artist Paul Gauguin, who moved in a week later, admired it as well. Full of colors inspired by the theories of Neo-Impressionist painter Georges Seurat, this painting is a very faithful depiction of Van Gogh’s bedroom at the time, down to the portraits that appear on the wall. It is now in the collection of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Most new modern windows don't open and shut from the middle like this picture depicts, but double hung windows open on both the top and bottom to get a similar feeling which these types of windows would have offered.Â
Expressionism: rooted in the turn of the century and inspired by the likes of Vincent van Gogh, 20th century art form sought to highlight the expression of emotion and the artist’s inner vision rather than pursue an exact representation of nature. Essentially, it became the precursor for many 20th century trends. You can see these trends in the paintings below.Â
The next featured image is from one of my favorite artists of the 19th century, Claude Monet. Monet's paintings of his water-garden and water-lilies at Giverny occupied him for many years in the latter part of his life and were his last great works. By the end of 1890 Monet was making enough from the sales of his pictures to buy his house at Giverny outright and soon after began improvements to the garden which included the formation of a pond from a marshy tract by damming a stream that ran into the river Epte. He painted Garden Path at Giverny in 1902. There is phenomenal use of color throughout the image, and touches of windows can be seen in his house.Â
Rene Magritte painted The Human Condition in 1933. Two of Magritte's favored themes were the "window painting" and the "painting within a painting." The Human Condition is one of Magritte's earliest treatments of either subject, and in it he combines the two, making what may be his most subtle and profound statement of their shared meaning. We're most likely looking at single hung window here. Today single hung windows are the most common and versatile windows of our time. They open on the bottom, and most single hung windows are extremely durable and energy efficient.Â
Finally, we move into 21st century art. Art of the 21st century emerges from a vast variety of materials and means. Many artists regularly and freely mix media and forms, making the choices that best serve their concepts and purposes.
There are an amazing array of windows featured in this painting! It just goes to show that windows are a part of everyday life and can be seen everywhere you look. It's important to take care of our windows in case some person spontaneously decides to paint our home. I also like his use of color too.
Here's a mix of modern and ancient techniques with new stained glass windows..
Talk about modern art with a twist.

We know that getting new windows can seem like an overwhelming process. This is why we’ve compiled this short list of questions to ask your contractors when you are getting estimates for window replacement. These questions are ways to gain knowledge on the new windows you are getting, and give yourself knowledge to make an educated decision on this very important purchase.Â
This question is a great starting off question because it gives you a lot of knowledge as to whether the window will be energy efficient or not. Wood windows are mostly a thing of the past. A high performance energy efficient window should come with a solid vinyl frame and be scratch resistant. Remember, if you’re using the window a lot it needs to keep its integrity. Â
A good contractor should have multiple years of experience. Think of it this way, you could give an average person a really nice Gibson guitar, but if he/she doesn’t know how to play it, it wouldn’t make a difference. If you have a top notch window but it’s installed by a person with no experience, it may get installed wrong negating all the energy efficient properties of the window.Â
A good window company should at least have 5-10 year warranties tacked on to all newly installed windows. A great window company will have Lifetime Warranties (like Conservation Construction). This way defects or damage are covered. Windows have a lot of moving parts and a good warranty is essential.
This question is essential when shopping around for windows. I like to think of the industry as the antithesis of instant gratification. Windows take time they need to get measured, then ordered, then made, then transported, then installed. It’s all these steps that can create a bit of a waiting period from the time of the first estimate to the time of installation. If you’re in need of windows quickly or want a specific time frame, it’s good to ask your estimator how long this will take.Â
This is a specialized coating that sits on the glass and gives your windows and home protection from the UV rays of the sun. Most states require this type of coating to pass inspections. Plus, this is a great thing to have on your windows to ensure more stable room temperatures all year round.Â
We hope you’ve learned something from this list of questions on window replacement. Keep all these things in mind when shopping around for replacement windows. Remember that Conservation Construction has all of the things listed above and more. You can get a free quote from us by following the link here. When I had old windows they were so bad I could literally see the curtains blowing in when the windows were shut. We also had severe amounts of water coming in because there was such bad gaps on the windows. We had to go through the house every time a storm came by to wipe up the pools of water to prevent damage. Not to mention the fact that most of the windows were almost impossible to open. The only good side to this was that even though the locks weren’t working, the windows were too hard to open anyway. In this sense they did offer some protection . . .Â
So what do we mean when we say windows that offer more protection? They are more impact resistance to extreme weather and are easy to lock. This can give you peace of mind next time you are leaving town to go on vacation, or if you’re just out of the house when a huge storm hits.Â
Now I’m not saying everybody’s windows out there are as bad as mine were, but regular old glass windows aren’t protecting your home from anything. Old regular glass panes aren’t even energy efficient. In Colorado today, they don’t allow windows to be installed in a house without having some sort of Low-E glass. Some old houses had pre installed windows which might have been okay for the time, but new advancements blow these types of windows out of the water. If you even have a single pane windows.
Our double hung windows/double pane windows are Low-E glass which has a microscopic 4 Layers of coating which protects the glass and insulates. It’s this kind of protection that keeps harmful UV rays out of the house. This means it protects your furniture and floors from becoming bleached over time. This is a totally different kind, yet very beneficial, type of protection.Â
In addition, we have a unique two point locking system on all of our windows which is installed on the top of the sliding portion of the window. See image below.Â
This type of design is used more today and works to prevent forced entry. In the old days people could pry open the window and then bottom lock. This two point locking system does give you better strength and prevention against these types of problems.
A Conservation Construction Windows is different than other windows on the market.Â
It’s all of our components that we place on and in our window that gives you better protection from the weather including;
It’s all these components working together that gives your windows protection, more stable room temperature, and the ability to last a lifetime. Â

People have been using Wikipedia for years now for anything like research papers to just plain information on their favorite band. With so many people being able to edit and add their own information to the site, it is no wonder so many people rely on the resource for their daily lives.
Here we come like magic, trying to claim that we can tell you things that Wikipedia can’t tell you about home improvement and equity. It seems a bit unbelievable, right? As a writer of this particular blog it seemed a little outrageous to me too. That was until I realized that there are several things Wikipedia can’t tell you about Home Improvement & Equity. This includes how much particular project will give you back in equity.
A Kitchen Remodel can give you back 80% of the cost you put into the project that you spent remodeling. Windows were also high on value during resale gaining 80% of the total cost back. Both of these options are great ideas to think about before you sell your home, or even if you just want a better looking house! A remodel has been known to lift my spirits and give me renewed hope in my house. We encourage you to do weigh both money back and happiness it will give to you in your life, both are important factors here.
I don’t think wikipedia can tell you the difference between a HELOC (Home Equity Line Of Credit) and a HEL (Home Equity Loan). The difference between the two is that HELOC gives you a limit kind of credit like a credit card. You can use a little now you can use a little later. A Home Equity Loan gives you a large lump sum all at once. Both may have a lower interest rates than a typical credit card. The average interest on Home equity loans and HELOCs are around 5% depending on credit score. That’s a ton of savings over a credit card. Financing is a great way to reduce interest rates as well. It too will give a limit to what you can spend, but it usually gives you a time period where you’ll get not interest at all. It’s at those times you can pay off the balance without paying interest at all. This is great for people looking for a ways to skip over interest. This is what sets financing apart from loans.
The definition of sweat equity is this :an interest or increased value in a property earned from labor toward upkeep or restoration. Sweat equity is only as good as the person who is doing the sweat equity. If you decide to do all the labor yourself, but don’t have the skill set, you could end up spending more. Small mistakes can add up to huge costs later. Sweat equity, if done correctly, can save a ton of money off labor. For small projects like painting it is a must. Instead of paying the average contractor 4k to paint your house, you can pocket that cost and get some sun in the process. At the very most you can try to rope your friends in and do it for the costs of a couple pizza’s and paint.
The benefits are great with HELs because if you use them to do remodeling projects. If you itemize your deductions you may be able to deduct the interest you paid on the home equity loan. We bet Wikipedia couldn’t tell you that! Some of these loans can give you as long as 20 years to pay back the loan which is great if you want to pay home renovations back slowly. A home equity loan is set for a one time set dollar amount. Determine how much your project will cost before applying for a loan. After you calculate the cost up, add 10%-15% more for overrun on costs as a precaution. Â
Finally, using Financing, HELOCs, or HELs is a great way to get home improvement done based one everything above. Just remember the list below and you’ll be fine. The benefits of these types of loans include

We hope you all enjoyed this article. Comment below on what you would use financing for. Remember that we do several dream projects here at Conservation Construction including; windows, siding and doors.
Happy Monday! We hope all of you have had a great weekend. Let’s get this Monday started off right! That means talking about home improvement. Hopefully we can use this article to distract you from the Monday blues!Â
So there are several things that negatively affect curb appeal, but let’s start with what I would like to call the most egregious offender . . . That is giant plastic animals in the front yard. Okay, although I know some people admire these objects in their yard, unless it’s Christmas, let’s keep the fake animals off the yard and embrace the fact that we live in Colorado. You could potentially have real deer visiting your home instead. Not only could it negatively affect your curb appeal for potential buyers if you are selling, the plastic deers are cheesy. If you still plan on keeping your fake animals stick, with real wood. Remember plastic animals are just a big no no.
Secondly, the landscape on the outside of your home is a big thing to consider keeping in great condition. As a potential buyer I would look for houses which were well groomed and didn’t have a bunch of “Must Fix” items that needed to get taken care of before I even moved in. This includes; weeds, unkempt grass, or crumbling concrete paths. Think about it, some of the items on this list are not that hard to maintain yourself. Mowing the yard every couple weeks makes a huge difference. This alone could be the difference between an okay looking house to a phenomenal looking house.
Take a look when you are driving through certain neighborhoods and it’s easy to see which people take pride in their grass and which do not. Even simply trimming up shrubs so they are less unkempt looking is a great way to add curb appeal. A well put together outside of your home reflects that you have a well kept home inside too.
Thirdly, consider fixing stuff on the outside of your home. This is your siding, windows and front door. Let’s focus in on the main thing people see from far away which is your siding/house color. If your old siding is faded, warped or water logged a potential buyer can spot this a mile away. Simply putting a fresh coat of paint can solve some problems. But upgrading the siding has multiple benefits including; adding equity into the home so you can ask for a higher price when you sell your home, give your home a pop of color to stand out, and gives you the look and feel of a new home. This will too give potential buyers or guests a great first impression of your home. In addition, new siding can add insulation, protect better from weather and reduce noise and energy use. How cool is that?
Finally, Old windows can hold fog, can be cracked and can really drag down the appearance of the home. A new set of windows or front door can give you that extra homey touch that gives your house the X factor to stand out. Windows and doors add energy efficiency to a home, equity and can add additional curb appeal. All of these things can add up to big savings and equity for you!
In conclusion, it’s easy to upgrade your home’s curb appeal. You can just stick to basics, mowing, pulling weeds, and adding a pop of color in the form of paint, or you can replace by adding siding, windows or doors. Each and every choice gives you a ton of options when it comes to color, asking price, and overall curb appeal of your home. Keep up the good work on your home improvement projects and we’ll see you next time. We encourage you to comment below on what your dream "Curb Appeal" project would be.Â

It’s surprising that the average first time American home buyer spent 34K on home improvements in 2016 alone. Millennial's spend closer to 24K on home improvements this year. Not surprisingly the average overall price people are willing to spend on home improvements has gone up over the past two years. With how much home improvement projects add to the overall equity and curb appeal of a home, this figure is surprising, but not shocking.
With so many people spending so much money on home improvement projects, one thing is clear . . . They, me and you care about the quality of our home life and what kind of home we are living in. It’s up to us which projects we take on. Which home improvement project you pick directly affects your quality of life. The most common problem with windows which are 15 years or older is a broken window seal. So many windows out there are crying out for attention, but they are often put on the back-burner. You can just cover up the problem with blinds or large curtains, right? Why actually be able to use the windows for the reason they were placed in your house in the first place?
It’s sad, but true, most people with windows which are broken or old typically just cover up the problem. This is sad for several reasons, but the first and foremost reason is that they, and you, don’t get the beautiful sunshine and views of the outdoors. You deserve the best out of your home, and old windows just don’t cut it.
Broken seals are easy to spot on your home or others homes by their tell-tale signs. Additionally, you can spot them a mile away by their spots and streaks from mineral deposits. Broken seals let the energy efficient gas between the panes escape. This means any air can get in and cause condensation between the glass. It also means that these windows have lost all of the energy saving properties a long time ago.
So, there are a lot of solutions to fixing this problem that I have read over the years, but none work as well as simply replacing the windows themselves. New insulated glass units with advanced window frames installed by our superior window installers make new windows orders of magnitudes better than simply replacing the glass itself. Â Â
Simply replacing the glass won’t replace the gas that was once between the glass. It won’t reseal your window with a new frame which is half the problem. Old wood and aluminum are poor insulators, and aluminum conducts heat making your home more hot in the summer. In addition, window seal failure means your windows are no longer energy efficient at all. They are just letting the breezes take all your energy out the window with them.
Finally, Conservation windows come in double or triple pane. They are sealed windows with foam filled sides and top. We include a special Argon Gas fill and all of our glass is Low-E 360 Glass. Furthermore, this Low-E glass is even more energy efficient than our competitors on the market.
In conclusion, simply fixing the windows with caulk or hiding the window with large curtains may work for a little while, but we want you to have windows which you can look out of and feel proud of. Let all the sunshine in by going with a new set of replacement windows from Conservation Construction. Comment below with your own window struggles, and remember we care about them even if you (and others) have forgotten what windows can do for you. Visit our website for your free estimate.
Have you ever heard that old saying “An apple a day keeps the Dr. Away?” I have a new saying for you which applies to windows which goes . . . “A window drain keeps the water away.” It’s pretty easy to remember. This one little drain can save your home the strife of water damage down the line. Â
How does it do this? It does this by allowing water a place to go when the rain is pouring. Our windows allow rain to drip down and out through these tiny drains at the bottom of the window. They filter the water away from the house so you don’t have to worry about it damaging your window well or seals again. This is just one of the many reasons so many people choose a Conservation Window.
I don’t know about you, but before I got new windows I had a terrible time keeping rain water from pooling on the window seals. My husband and I had to caulk several times just to stop the water from getting inside our house. Then there was always cleaning up the water as it was happening and that was a huge hassle. Now that I have new windows I don’t have to worry about water leaking into my home at all. It’s been so nice to see the blizzards and heavy rain come in knowing that my house is protected.
The good news is that if you get a Conservation Vinyl Window, each and every window you now own will have this bottom drain. This is also an exclusive feature we provide at Conservation Construction--no other company offers this type of bottom drain. The window itself too which has a specific Easy Clean Glass coating was made to be a frictionless surface. So if rain or snow does come your way this coating literally “Sheets Off” any debris. This will keep your windows clean and shiny. Easy Clean Glass Coating also uses the power of the sun to decompose matter from the glass literally cleaning the window for you. Less cleaning for you means a easier time in your own home.
If all these things don’t equate to you wanting a window still, remember your window sill and window frame. Windows leaks are common, and you deserve a window that works for you from the top of the window to the bottom. Replacement windows can give you more protection from the weather whether it be rain or shine.
Lastly, we work with your HOA on your behalf so you don’t have to. Once we get your HOA information, we go through all the jumps and hoops and try to get your HOA approval done quickly. This means you could have new windows in within weeks. How cool is that.
What are you waiting for? A rain resistant window is just around the corner for you. Get them before another storm blows into town and the rain could literally be “Sheeting Away” from your home.
In conclusion, when looking for a new window make sure it has bottom drains so that water isn’t sitting and causing damage. You can get a window like this from Conservation Construction. We encourage all of you to leave a comment below on your own experience with water damage and old windows. Please check out our gallery page for complete transformations from before to after.
We will see you next time . . .
Some people spend a ton of money to visit a psychic. The psychic usually sits down with them and goes over their future. They even tell them about their future love life and what aspirations they should pursue. This kind of thing might be good over a short period of time, but in the long term you need something more substantial to lean on. A “This could happen” mentality is great to look at every once in a while, but with a brand new set of windows you can get a “This will happen” future in your sights.
As you read this article today remember that while others may be using their money on a psychic, you could literally be putting your money to good use. This is not a metaphorical window into your future savings, this is an actual window to start saving money now. You too can add a bit more money into your pocket for later.
Ever notice how much you spend on your energy costs? If not, then you are not like me who meticulously calculates and budgets for a certain amount of energy costs. It was my frugality that made me look into getting new windows in the first place.  The average American spends a total of 7% of their overall income on energy costs. In the state of Colorado we average $252.00 on monthly energy bills alone. That’s a ton of money to heat your house. I try to keep mine less than half of that average cost.
If you’re not a penny pincher like myself then why would you even consider getting new windows? Why not keep things in a homeostasis matter and keep doing what you’re doing? My response to you is that you don’t have to be a budgeter like myself to want to reduce your costs. Who wouldn’t want a few extra dollars in your pocket to put towards a savings account, or even have a little extra spending money to put towards another goal you would like to achieve.
New windows save the average homeowner 30% off their total energy bills. This means an average monthly savings of $75.60. That’s enough reason to get new windows if I ever heard one.
For those of you skeptics out there, I will attest personally on getting new Windows from Conservation Construction. These windows had me sold at a base level because they are some of the most energy efficient windows on the market. But after getting them installed, I can truly say that during the winter, when the furnace used to come on at least 3 times a night, it went down to coming on zero times a night. Our first energy bill went down from  156 to 109. I saved $47 the first month alone. That is incredible! A huge added bonus is that I can see out of the windows now too.
New windows are not a frivolous purchase which you will question down the road. Energy efficient windows stay energy efficient for life. Unlike a shirt that wears down with every wash windows will stay the same through rain or shine. Backed by Lifetime Limited Warranties which are transferable, you will never question whether you have a window that will stand the test of time. Â
If you are considering new windows just know they are a great decision for your future. They do save money and add equity into your home for future. Consider new windows--your future self will thank you very much for this decision.
In Conclusion, make smart decisions with your money. Choose to spend your money deliberately and purposefully. This way your money works for you and saves you money down the line. We encourage you to explore our gallery to see the before and after transformations. As always thanks for reading.
It was perfect timing that this article should be today, because I woke up to a huge spider in my shower. It gave me the heebie jeebies crawling up the side of the tub! I’m no stranger to the “Little Miss Muffet” syndrome. Spiders scare me and, according to research 40% of other Americans find them frightening as well. No, they don't look as cute as this picture either.
For a while back in 2016 we lived at my now husband’s Aunt’s House. We were watching over her property. The windows in this home were just about as bad as they could get. You could literally see the breezes pushing the curtains in--even when she had “Blackout Curtains” to shield the home from sun and cold. The biggest major problem was that there was a small garden just outside the front windows. These gardens were swarming with bugs (and a ton of spiders.) These creepy crawlies would come in on the daily and either cling to the windows, or crawl into the house. Not to be gross, but one time I found a huge spider in a completed load of laundry. It was terrifying.
We sealed up the gaps in the windows with caulk and even a clear plastic film, but all the windows were terrible and all were gap/crack ridden. Unfortunately, bugs can squeeze into gaps as small as 3mm round. I refer to this picture here to give you some visual to just how tiny a space that is. There was no stopping the bugs, it was like they had free reign over the house and we were powerless to stop them. No matter the amount of spray or bug traps we had, they were everywhere. There is something very unsettling about not knowing when a spider would jump down at you from the ceiling.
So what is the solution to this problem? Clearly bug proofing, bug spray and plastic window screens would not stop these guys from getting through the windows and doors. Our solution came by moving out, but some people don’t have that option with their own home. I’ll tell you an easy way to get rid of the spiders and bugs with little to no effort . . . It is to get replacement windows.
Although this option is a little bit of an investment it does have many benefits to you. Windows up the energy efficiency in your home saving you money over the long haul.
But let’s get to their bug repellent properties. Okay, new windows don’t so much repel as they do stop. New windows are measured to fit your home. They are flush and are insulated. Our installers make sure to add extra insulation around the windows the ensure your home is storm and bug proof. With such a tight seal there is no hope of them going through any gaps. There are no 3mm ares for them to squeeze through. The bugs would literally have to go through the window itself, but with new windows having no cracked glass or gapping between the panes they won’t be able to get in that way either. Plus our superior aluminum screens fit tight too so you can still keep the breezes coming without letting the bugs in.
In conclusion new windows can make it a whole lot easier to keep those creepy crawlies out. It will also save you a ton of money in energy costs. Really without bugs and more money new windows are a win/win for you. Check out our Windows to see why ours are the best at keeping out bugs.
If you find the bugs just rerouting to other areas to get in, we sell an entire line of tight seal entry doors and siding to keep them out too. We encourage you to visit our website for more information. Tell us what you think of the idea of replacement windows to prevent bugs.
They say diamonds are a girl's best friend, right? A diamond is rare, and a diamond is an investment. That’s what the ring stores want you to think. Trust me they’re not so rare or else there wouldn’t be hundreds upon hundreds of stores selling these little gems for thousands of dollars. You want to know what a better investment is? A brand new set of windows for your home!
Yes, that’s right. Windows add much more equity into your home than any fancy ring could, plus you’ll get better views and a more stunning window which shines for life.
So let’s talk about logistics for a second. You can sit there with warm water and cleaning solution or even go as far as getting a fancy jewelry cleaner, or you can get something that’s a better investment. Sure diamond jewelry or any jewelry is great to look at, but it can’t save you money on your energy costs and it can’t clean itself like our windows can. So you can sit there and gently rub your tarnished silver necklace with polishing solution, or you can think about getting new windows instead. Stop thinking about buying that new ring and start thinking about an investment for the home that will save you money over time.
Our incredible Conservation windows are the perfect solution for cleaning problems. They have a special Easy Clean Glass coating which sits on the glass for life and uses the power of the sun to dissolve organic matter from the glass. If any rain comes your way this windows will literally “sheet off” the rain to prevent water spots on the glass. Say goodbye to window cleaner and cleaning cloths. Our glass will shine for you with ease for years to come. Can a jewelry store make the same guarantee?
Finally you’ll be making a much more money savvy choice by choosing new windows. I mean, let’s face it, windows practically pay for themselves over time. Does a fancy ring? We don’t think so. Windows (especially Conservation windows) give you a more stable room temperature all year round. They have been known to save the average homeowner up to 30% off their energy bills. This means you’ll have more money in you pocket to spend on the things you want.
Plus the fact that our windows have amazing Low-E Glass. Our patented formula coats the glass with 4 Layers of protection. This coating reflects harmful UV rays back outwards so your inside temperature stays stable. It also still allows for beautiful light to come in without bleaching your furniture. Can your piece of jewelry do that? If you just said yes to that last question I have to question you. There’s no way a ring can save you money over time.
Finally, solid gold is very beautiful, but it has got nothing on our stunning Vinyl Windows. We’ve already stated that our windows stay clean all by themselves (shining bright for life). But they are safe. You have to buy a safe to keep your jewelry safe, but our windows keep your house safer innately. They were designed for strength. Our locks have two steps to open them, so your home will be safe and secure all year round with little effort. We designed them that way so you wouldn’t have to worry about break ins.
Rings don’t add equity into your home like windows do. I mean an investment in windows can add a higher asking price to your home when it comes time to selling.
If you are comparing big box options to premium products, read our blog, Patio Doors Superior To Home Depot, to see how quality and craftsmanship truly stand out.
In conclusion windows are a way better investment than a rings or jewelry. It can save you money over time on energy costs and you can get a better selling price when it comes time to move. So when you are daydreaming about something shiny later on in the day maybe daydream about shiny windows instead! They are great for you and your family! Thanks for reading the article and we’ll see you on Friday for another.
Let’s start this article out with a metaphor. I want to you picture in your head a crying baby. It’s screeching and wailing and in desperate need of attention. They need a bottle, a diaper, a nap or love. You can think of your crying windows in the same respect minus the diaper, bottle or nap. However, your windows do need a lot of love and attention. If they have condensation between the glass which is dripping down the glass, your windows are literally crying out to be replaced.
Windows are easy to overlook because they are often hidden behind a curtain, but trust us they’re there. If you are in desperate need of windows like I was--take example 1 as proof (these were my real windows no joke). They were crying and weeping from condensation being trapped between the glass. I used a curtain to hide the windows from sight, but that only solved the issue of me having to look the grotesque things. They weren’t energy efficient and they certainly weren’t something I wanted guests to see when they came over.
At the same time my house allows for a lot of natural light, and I wanted to keep the curtains open to make the house more airy and bright. It’s just too bad there were these pesky outdated aluminum window frames and glazed windows with condensation stuck between the glass.Â
Trust me, it wasn’t preventing the cool air from getting inside during the winter time either. There were ice crystals forming on the inside of my windows. Sort of like this . . .
And in the summer there was a ton of air exchange and sun exposure let inside to keep the house hot as ever. When you don’t have air conditioning, it makes it 5 times worse.
After getting new windows for my home it was a huge difference. So much so that in the winter time when the furnace would come on 4-5 times a night it went down to 0. That’s right folks. My windows prevented my furnace from even having to work at night. How great is that?
But the most dramatic difference, even more so than energy savings, are the clear views I now get from the windows. I mean the overall feeling in my home has gone from gloomy to cheery. I can now look out my windows without seeing a ton of splotches caused from water that was just sitting between the panes for years. The curtains are open full wide and all that sunlight is now let in. I’m telling you my mood has gone up so much. I could not be happier with the windows. Now I’m not embarrassed to keep them hidden behind the curtains when guests come over either.
Weeping windows are not only bad to look at they are bad for your home. When you have windows with condensation stuck between the glass the seal has broken at this point. When the seal is broken it doesn’t prevent anything from coming into your home. Breezes and bugs are just a couple of examples of what could be entering your home without you wanting it to. Besides old glass didn’t meet any standards for energy efficiency at all. Now builders and new window manufacturers are required to have glass that are low emissivity.
What is low emissivity? Low-E Coatings are when heat or light energy is either absorbed by the glass or it is convected away. The ability of a material to radiate energy  is called emissivity. Low-E Glass as we have here at Conservation Construction can radiate as low as .04 heat. The lower the number the better.
Finally, if you replaced your windows for the home it would be a huge drop in energy costs.
If you are evaluating other exterior issues around your home, explore When Does Siding Need To Get Replaced? to learn the signs that your siding may also need attention.
In conclusion, you don’t have to put up with weeping windows. Stop them crying for attention with new energy efficient windows. Remember to always ask for Low-E Glass. Lastly, remember that windows are an investment one that can definitely pay off--even if just in the form of a more bright home and a more energetic you!
Did you get dumped or rejected this past Valentine’s Day? Don’t cry over wasted chocolates and flowers, distract yourself quickly and you may not even feel the sting of that heartbreak. Lucky for you Conservation Construction has the best way to distract you. Use our windows to get over your heartbreak.
