Home Window Replacement VS Repair

Replacing Vs Repairing Windows, Window Replacement, New Home Windows, Home Window Replacement,

Happy Monday to all reading this article. As we ramp up for an entire new week we thought we’d give you an article to distract yourself from the Monday blues.

In today’s article we’re talking about the differences in Window Replacement VS Window Repair. The average person might not think that there is a huge difference between the two. After working in the window replacement business for the past two years let me tell you there is a huge difference. So, let’s jump into today’s article and learn all about it.

So why is it that the typical person needs a Replacement Window/Repair Window? It’s usually because their window isn’t functioning properly. Either they have condensation stuck between the glass, they have cracked glass, the window doesn’t open properly, or the locks don’t work. In the situation in my own house all of the above were happening at once. If you have any one of these problems it’s a tell-tale it’s time to replace.

So what’s the deal with repair or replacement? There are clear distinctive differences. Repair companies typically just put new panes of glass inside the windows. Repair companies can fix non-sliding window frame problems too. These repairs can make the original windows look almost brand new, but here’s where the issues come in . . . they are not brand new windows at all. The problems that were there before are still problems, but just masked over problems.

If repair companies replace the glass with insulated glass coatings and reseal the window, that doesn’t give you optimal energy efficiency because they are not filling the windows with specialty gases. These gases give optimal insulation and energy efficiency, without them your old windows won’t insulate as well as Replacement Windows. On top of this, re-caulking and weather stripping the windows looks nice, but it’s not guaranteed to keep the seal for very long.

The final difference in just repairing or replacing is a doozy. This is a definite Pay Attention moment for the article before simply repairing your windows. Old frames that were used throughout the 50’s-80’s and even into the early 90’s used Aluminum or Metal frames.

This is a huge red flag in the repair world. You don’t want to simply repair old metal frames because metal frames will effectively just make the problems with your old windows come back. Let me state that again. Metal frames will just make you have the same problems you’ve had before like condensation, cracking glass, and overall wonky windows. Why is this? It’s simple . . . Metal conducts heat. When the sun shines into your windows, the metal is contracting and expanding with the heat. This causes window seals and glass to become shifted and loose within those frames. It wouldn’t be very long before these problems started to arise once again.

Our advice is to spend even a little bit more on Window Replacement. There is a reason Conservation Construction utilizes Vinyl window frames and double paned windows with energy efficient glass. Unlike metal or rotting wood, the frames hold up to extreme temperatures and weather. Heck, we even back all of our windows by Lifetime Warranties to ensure longevity, ease of operation, and lower energy bills.

Our Vinyl windows have;

  •  Foam Filled Frames (for airtight seal/better insulation)
  • Custom Bottom Drains (to let out water)
  • Argon Gas Fill (which insulates better than air)
  • Supreme Locking System (for protection)
  • Easy slide Frames (opening and closing easily for the life of the window)
  •  Low-E Glass coating (protects your home from harmful UV rays and fading)
  • Easy Clean Coating (windows practically clean themselves)
  • Lifetime Warranties

It’s all of these things working together that give you a window that is able to withstand drastic fast temperature changes and every day wear and tear with ease. Ease of operation is something all homeowners should enjoy in their own home. You shouldn’t have to struggle just to get your windows open, and you won’t have to with a Conservation Window.

The most extraordinary and second Pay Attention moment for this article is this. We cut the windows to fit when we install them at your house. You might have thought you read something wrong there, but you didn’t. Our expert installers come and measure each window individually. We then custom make your windows from scratch in our warehouse in Loveland Colorado. The frame is cut down on site during installation to fit snugly inside your home.  This means you get the tightest seal possible for your windows with little to no air infiltration possible. The result is that over the life of the window you’ll get optimal energy efficiency and a more stable room temperature all year round. The average homeowner who chooses Conservation Construction has seen a typical savings of up to 40% off their energy bills.

So the differences in repairing your windows versus replacing them are huge. We hope you’ve learned a bit from today’s article. Remember the key facts, repairing doesn’t always fix the problem because the same issues may arise later on. Replacing windows give you longevity, ease of operation, efficiency and beauty. One Response to “Home Window Replacement VS Repair”

  1. I am so appreciative that you shared how replacing a window can offer you longevity, prevent future problems, and give your home a beautiful look. When the boys were playing softball out back this weekend, one of them accidentally cracked a window with the ball. It sounds like hiring a replacement window company would be the best solution.
