Trend 1
The first major trend that has been gaining momentum through the past few years are Smarthomes. Smarthomes combine energy savings and convenience. Smarthomes are devices that allow you to program your home’s temperature while you’re away. They can monitor your fridge temperature, they can even tell you who is at the front door, and if your front door is locked. With so many people getting packages stolen, or wanting to save money on energy, these devices are a great way to monitor all of these things from one device. You can even change the temperature of your home while you’re away. At the end of 2017 the trend rose to over 20 million people in the US alone have smarthomes. Like all things on the market there are a ton of brands which have smart home devices such as; Google, Amazon, Apple, and more. It’s really up to you which smarthome would be the best fit for your house.

Let’s move on to trend number two; aging in one place. A lot of the elderly community find it hard to move later on in life. More likely than not they are staying put in the house they have lived in for the past several years and remodeling for accessibility and ease of living. They tend to improve the home they are in rather than move elsewhere which is why there has been a spike in home improvement projects for the elderly community.
Trend 3
Metal is a huge trend right now in home improvement. You can see this trend in kitchens, bathrooms, and flooring. Metal features, counter-tops, flooring, and even wall color adds a dimension and texture to a room. Copper light fixtures and sinks are also a popular choice right now. Mixing and matching different textures and colors of metal is very ubiquitous, and if you choose this feature for your house you’ll be at the peak of current household trends.
Trend 4
Stand alone showers and tubs have gained a lot of ground this past year and are still huge features in 2020. New builds, like at my parents home, have stand alone showers with no tub. We’re saying you have to give up your luxurious bath time, but stand alone showers are made to be spacious and huge nowadays. They even have couples showers now. The beauty of stand alone showers besides the fact that you get more space is usually that they are intricately tiled into amazing patterns and make a home look really modern.
Trend 5
Lastly, everybody is moving to eco friendly/energy efficient home improvement supplies. People want products that are energy efficient to save money. They also want products that are environmentally conscious. It’s why we’ve seen a rise in purchases for our windows in 2019. That’s because Conservation Construction windows can save the average homeowner up to 40% off their total energy costs. Other products like water saving dishwashers and sinks are popular items on the market today too. Truly anything that can save the homeowner energy is something to watch for in 2020.
