What Can Negatively Affect Curb Appeal?

Replacement Windows, Replacement Siding, Replacement Doors, Curb Appeal, Conservation Construction,

Happy Monday! We hope all of you have had a great weekend. Let’s get this Monday started off right! That means talking about home improvement. Hopefully we can use this article to distract you from the Monday blues!

So there are several things that negatively affect curb appeal, but let’s start with what I would like to call the most egregious offender . . . That is giant plastic animals in the front yard. Okay, although I know some people admire these objects in their yard, unless it’s Christmas, let’s keep the fake animals off the yard and embrace the fact that we live in Colorado. You could potentially have real deer visiting your home instead. Not only could it negatively affect your curb appeal for potential buyers if you are selling, the plastic deers are cheesy. If you still plan on keeping your fake animals stick, with real wood. Remember plastic animals are just a big no no.

Secondly, the landscape on the outside of your home is a big thing to consider keeping in great condition. As a potential buyer I would look for houses which were well groomed and didn’t have a bunch of “Must Fix” items that needed to get taken care of before I even moved in. This includes; weeds, unkempt grass, or crumbling concrete paths. Think about it, some of the items on this list are not that hard to maintain yourself. Mowing the yard every couple weeks makes a huge difference. This alone could be the difference between an okay looking house to a phenomenal looking house.

Take a look when you are driving through certain neighborhoods and it’s easy to see which people take pride in their grass and which do not. Even simply trimming up shrubs so they are less unkempt looking is a great way to add curb appeal. A well put together outside of your home reflects that you have a well kept home inside too.

Thirdly, consider fixing stuff on the outside of your home. This is your siding, windows and front door. Let’s focus in on the main thing people see from far away which is your siding/house color. If your old siding is faded, warped or water logged a potential buyer can spot this a mile away. Simply putting a fresh coat of paint can solve some problems. But upgrading the siding has multiple benefits including; adding equity into the home so you can ask for a higher price when you sell your home, give your home a pop of color to stand out, and gives you the look and feel of a new home. This will too give potential buyers or guests a great first impression of your home. In addition, new siding can add insulation, protect better from weather and reduce noise and energy use. How cool is that?

Finally, Old windows can hold fog, can be cracked and can really drag down the appearance of the home. A new set of windows or front door can give you that extra homey touch that gives your house the X factor to stand out. Windows and doors add energy efficiency to a home, equity and can add additional curb appeal. All of these things can add up to big savings and equity for you!

In conclusion, it’s easy to upgrade your home’s curb appeal. You can just stick to basics, mowing, pulling weeds, and adding a pop of color in the form of paint, or you can replace by adding siding, windows or doors. Each and every choice gives you a ton of options when it comes to color, asking price, and overall curb appeal of your home. Keep up the good work on your home improvement projects and we’ll see you next time. We encourage you to comment below on what your dream “Curb Appeal” project would be.
