When Should You Replace Old Vinyl Siding?

Conservation Construction, Siding Replacement, Replacement Siding

There are several things you can do to tell if you need to replace old siding. We’ll cover most of all you need to know about this in today’s article. Your home’s exterior is important, and you should know when it’s time to replace your siding so damage doesn’t occur down the line. This happens easily when paint gets old and water gets through the cracks. So, just what are the things you should know?

Visual Inspections

It’s not always easy to tell from a far distance away if you are in need of new siding or not. Paint can be deceptive and hide things that are under the surface. The easiest thing to do is to inspect to see if you are in need of new siding. All this takes is a close up inspection of the siding itself.

The first thing to look for is chipped or cracking pain. This may seem obvious, but it isn’t always obvious to everybody. Chipped or cracking paint can mean that the paint itself isn’t protecting the wood siding or vinyl siding from getting wet. If you’ve already waited this long to paint your house, the siding underneath is probably already damaged.

To inspect this further you can take a screwdriver and poke under individual panels to see if the pieces themselves or the wood underneath the siding has absorbed any water. If this is the case, you’re going to want to replace your siding sooner rather than later because a new coat of “Paint” won’t solve the problem.

Vinyl Siding Inspections

Vinyl Siding damage in particular is easy to see upon close inspection. These are two tell-tale signs that you need to replace old vinyl siding and they are; Bubbles forming on the surface of the siding and warped tiles of siding. If you have either of these problems going on this indicates water damage as well. It’s only a matter of time before water can soak into the foundation itself causing even more damage.

On top of this, vinyl siding can accumulate mold or mildew causing you to have to power wash it on a regular basis. Plus this stuff on your exterior siding drags down curb appeal making your damaged siding look even worse. Who wants to have a siding on their house with a permanent “maintenance required” siding for the rest of the time they own the home? New vinyl sidings don’t have the same mold/mildew issues as vinyl sidings from the past.
